so you have to have like a vcr or some recording device in your car to hook the camera up to for it to work? then you have to run the wire from the "recorder" to the actual camera?

We have not seen good results using computer based cameras that hook up to the USB port, such as your typical "Internet" camera. Normally those cameras are pretty low resolution to save bandwidth. The ConeCam is similar to the camcorder, but requires an external recording device such as a VCR or a Camcorder to plug into. We use CAT5/RJ-45 cabling because it is cheap, easily available, rugged, and has enough wires to do what we need. This is not a network camera! You *can* hook this camera up to a video capture card in your laptop. We can even provide switchers and a laptop interface."
