CHICAGO -(Dow Jones)- Stung by the unexpected loss of a huge defense contract, Boeing Co. (BA) Tuesday said it made a formal request for an immediate debriefing from the U.S. Air Force on why it wasn't selected to build as many as 179 new refueling tanker aircraft.
On Friday, Air Force officials announced that a competing team of Northrop Grumman Corp. (NOC) and EADS (EADSY), the European parent of Boeing rival Airbus, had won the $40 billion deal. The Air Force said Boeing would be debriefed as soon as March 12, adding that, until that time, they wouldn't discuss weaknesses in the Boeing bid.

Are you saying that the US govt. should award the contract to the American company? It's a tough call though, since there are only two manufacturers of suitable aircraft. Who's to say that Boeing didn't fatten it up figuring they were a sure bet to get the job?

I don't think scarebus should even have the opportunity to bid, at some point we're going to have come to the conclusion that even if it does cost a few more bucks, we need to buy our **** from US based company's using US labor to make their parts. No one puts any money back into the us, it just leaves, big business and the rich are bailing out of the us faster then ants to sugar. We have gone from the largest most powerful nation to the biggest debtor nation the world has ever seen in a very short time and it ain't getting better by sending one of the few projects we actually have a US company to do and do very well to foreign nations.
You'll prolly make the fat back in the savings from less unemployed and the taxes the employed pay, instead, france gets the job, we get what we've been getting all along, nothing. Who knows, you might not even have to dish 150 billion for some band aid economic stimulus package.
Last check we were in some pissing match with france over iraq cause they weren't stupid enough to go to iraq, we had to enjoy freedom fries instead. Unless things have changed we're not even allowed in their airspace with our military aircraft.... we prolly wont be able to get the tankers out of france.

I'd have to agree.
I hate it when Canada buys old English navy ****. You could give thousands of canadians jobs in that department but are ******* them over by buying absolute junk from another country. So what if we couldnt engineer ourselves out of a rat maze its still the principle of the thing and opportunity for those within the country. At least if they are going to make the deal with a foreign country at least have the planes built in the U.S.A. that way it's a win-win to some degree...

The KC-45A Tanker aircraft will be assembled at new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Mobile, Ala., and will employ 25,000 workers at 230 U.S. companies. The KC-45A's refueling systems will be built at new facilities in Bridgeport, W.Va., and delivered to the KC-45A Production Center for aircraft integration.
