So 94t and I are going to attempt to paint an FD...giving that the owner gives us his concent tomorrow. We both have done nothing but a little reading...Figured I would check and see if any of you have done this.

Figure it cant hurt to do it since his paint is really jacked and probably wouldn't put us out more than a few hundread for the paint gun and paint.

Whadda ya say?

Hey needed to ask you....the guy that Ben bought his first FD from that painted his own car....do you have any idea what kind of equipment and paint brand he was using? His car turned out looking like the heat.

Seriously? You guys have never painted a car and have none of the related equipment to do so? I hope a video comes out along with the finished product!

George, no worries, you will get the full run down.

Wow, well you guys will have your work cut out, that's for sure.

If you want a quality job that isn't going to look like **** you will have a shitload of dis-assembly, hours of prep work, and a ton of masking paper and tape. Not to mention a cup gun, moisture trap, air compressor and a place to spray the car where a bunch of crap won't fall in the paint, and where the DEQ and EPA won't give you guys a bunch of problems.

Yeah we know, lol.

Not to be a buzzkill, but maybe you guys can just prep the cars and get them ready to go in the booth, then trailer the car to the paint shop, it would still save a bundle of cash doing all the hard work yourselves, as well as saving all that money on equipment. I have done a few cars in that manner, full repaints for the cost of materials and a couple of bottles of whiskey for cocktails to brighten the mood. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Bottles of Whiskey to lighten the mood? Why, they'll already have paint fumes!

Good luck guys, I got tomorrow off, give me a call if you need a cameraman https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

True. this would save a lot of money. But after doing all that tedious prep work I am not going to let someone steal my glory away while I watch them do the fun part...Worse that would happen is that we are out the cost of the equipment and a **** load of time. Which really doesn't worry me.

We basically want to get it done and learn it so we can take car of our own ****. Can't learn if you don't dive in and do it yourslef. Plus 94t has a buddy with a body shop who will more than likely be over there giving us tips on the job. Will be in 94t's cleaned out garage that would be plastic encapsulated and dust free.
