Thumbs up

How many hours shoudl it take to take out and put in a new 13B? Doing a new wiring harness and all? The shop put down 24 hours to rebuild my engine but we got it from mazda as a re-man so i cant dee 24 hours. Is 24 hours right for a rotary?

pshht.. take it out (with right tools): 2 hours

rebuild (if dont before and know how): couple hours at most!

rewire (if dont before): couple hours

engine install, 4 hours or so

if you went non-stop and you had experience doing it before it should only take like 10-15 hours.

depends on how the shop operates. If they operate on flat rate then you pay the books flat rate for doing the job. just make sure you get a good estimate in writing, and that you have to approve all repairs above the estimate. Flat rate is decent for the consumer, because it takes into effect things like broken studs, and other unknowns, even though it may take 15-20 hrs to do the job, there may be other factors involved. If you want to rush the job and have them do it in 15 hrs be my guest, but remember if the job is rushed the mechanic is going to miss a few things. On the other hand if it turns out that it does take longer you are only charged the 24hr install. Flat rate sucks from a mechanics point. your only going to get paid for the flat rate, troubleshooting is a mechanics worst moneymaker, if your not good, you lose your ***.

I know that the time taken to fit a s4 13B into a s1 Rx7 is charged for 22hours labour. That involves a bit of srewing around too, cos the mounts are different, etc.

hey if its that big of a deal, take a day off and go watch them, see if they really are using the 24 hours they are billing you for. THe 24 hours seems reasonable to me.
