i love when people ask me how many pistons it has or something of that nature because i like to enlighten them about the rotary engine and why it makes more sense than a piston engine.

But you say the actual displacement is 1.3L!

You have been owned.

U poser. Everybody who understands internal combustion engines knows that actual displacement is meaningless in light of different engine types. 1.3l two stroke piston engine is not the same as 1.3l four stroke piston engine or 1.3l rotary, from power and fuel consumption standpoint.

If the small internal volume of a rotary engine's cobustion chamber is what is important to you, and not its running characteristics, it is not an engine to you but an object of novelty. I prefer to run my engines for the sake of making the car go, not for the sake of being different from other engine types.

And you can't own me without a better education. I tried to give you a lesson but you ignored it.

LOL!!!!!

I almost just lost it hearing POSER I havent heard that in a LOOOOOONNNNNGGG time....

Anyway back to regularly scheduled programing..

So the rotary needs to go through two complete revolutions to be compared to piston engines and add up to 2.6l? That's pretty dumb. Is that how they rate the displacement of 2 stroke engines too?

Jeff20B 01-05-2004 02:23 AM

Thinking about it some more, it seems to me that a rotary engine should only require one complete rotation of the eccentric shaft when measuring for displacement. This is probably how Mazda originally rated them.

The reasoning is simple. Let's look at a single rotor engine here for argument's sake. For every 360º of eccentric shaft rotation, we have one complete combustion event. The other two faces of the rotor are in there respective phases.

Thanks to the three-face nature of a rotor, and its 3:1 gearing, only one rotation of the eccentric shaft is needed for displacement measurements. Trying to compare all this equally to a piston engine is laughable. I laugh at calling a 13B a 2.6 liter! Hahaha *hack* ahem.

"How come you have 2 radiators?"

"How'd you get a Viper in Okinawa!?!?"

"How many cylinders do you have?"

~It's a rotary engine, no cylinders. Displaces 1.3 liters

"Oh....so it's a V6"

~No...it's a rotary. It has 2 doritos on a stick inside.

"So it's dual cam?"

I remember one time this summer at the sunday night car meets held here in the city, i was skateboarding through with a group of friends, and i saw defpruns, and ColinRx7's cars. One of my ricer friends looked at Colin's license plate, which is NOPISTNS or some variation thereof, and was like 'no pistons? how does he drive without pistons?' I laughed and said 'rotary' and kept skating https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Next year guys ill stop and talk, i was late meeting someone and i couldnt stop.

Jspec---LOL! OH SNAP!!! I forgot about the 2 radiators, thats from the geniuses, or should I just say those that have NEVER seen a turbo.

Whats that thing? haha

I replied with, "follow the piping...it's connected to my throttle body"....still didn't get it.

haha I hear ya...

This day at the shop on base before, I come out to my car and this guy is just snapping away with some pics all excited, I thought maybe some freak, I was like WTF dude... He says this is the first time I have seen a TUSCON (spelling) in person. I was like smiling KEEP SEARCHING PAL, you havent found one yet. hehe

This guy was like late 30s-early 40s and HAD NEVER seen a FD before, thats weird even for the US, I have seen like 10 of them just in movies..

Kind of off subject, but that made me think about it, because OL CRAP, he wanted to see the engine too..................... thats a whole other story....
