man has anyone ever asked you how many cylinders you have in your seven? i swear i hate that crap soo much. some guy in a probe asked me how many cylinder i have and i just told i have 3. this guy told me he has a triple cam, turbo probe that redlines at 11,000 rmps. man i wanted to laugh soo freakin hard, i just gave him a kinda,"yeah erright guy" kinda remark. he also said he had a 13brew in his probe, but he said he didnt like it so he gave it away. people like that should die. i run into them too much.

sectachrome 01-04-2004 04:44 PM

when i first got my car and before i could even drive it or knew anything about it, some kid asked "is that a 6 or 8", and i said "6 i think". hahaha.

Rob x-7 01-04-2004 04:58 PM

I dont see the big deal, people just dont know

sidewinderx7 01-04-2004 05:30 PM

When i was 15 and got my 1st gen i thought it was a 4 cylinder rotary. :-p

No one in my family is a mechanic, or even worked on cars (other than in the 70's). So everything i learned i learned on my own, and at that time i knew nothing about them. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png All i knew was that the speedo went to 140 .. haha

JT-Imports 01-04-2004 05:37 PM

I have to explain it all the time, so it doesnt bother me much https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/dry.png

Rotary i knew before I owned one since I saw them before I even knew what it was.

I get how many liters is it 1.3, damn thats small, must be slow huh? (NOPE) well how my pistons does it have, it doesnt have pistons it a rotary. Hummm looking at me like im dumb, well ok how many valves does it have? (doesnt have valves) what what does it have? (IT HAS ROTORS!)

My responce would be in the ( ) marks just incase you didnt get it.

People dont know, but it bothers me when they look at you like your dumb, because they dont know haha https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

Jeff20B 01-04-2004 05:38 PM

Just tell those idiots that you have four spark plugs. They'll then think you have a four cylinder. That's good enough for them. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

JT-Imports 01-04-2004 05:40 PM

But then your in DEEPSHITE, when he wants to look. then says I dont see any spark plugs! haha

amp 01-04-2004 05:48 PM

consider them as uninformed..

take the opportunity to present the rotary...

you may get a receptive individual...

RotaryXSevn 01-04-2004 05:50 PM

eople dont know, but it bothers me when they look at you like your dumb, because they dont know haha

i second that, i mean i dont mind much for that people just dont know but some people just say a bunch of crap that they think you believe. such as triple cam 11,000 redline then he wont show his engine. i'm just venting.

Dramon_Killer 01-04-2004 05:57 PM

What do you have done?

"i'm stock"

then you beat them, fwahahahaa.

teknics 01-04-2004 06:20 PM

i always tell everyone im stock, ask fikse/martni. he came to my town and instantly both our cars became stock.

the other day i was throwing flames in a parknig lot full of friends and i hear this mustang revving at me from a diff. parking lot. well he rolls up and he's like "what you got, an autolock kit" i was like "an auto what?" and that went back and forth about 3 tmies until he fnially goes "yuo know a spark plug and wire in your exhaust" i was like "na man, this **** does that normally, no plugs here" so he asked me "what valves do you have" i looked at my friend smiling and said "i dont have any valves, it's rotary" to which he replied "oh so you're running OPEN VALVES" i almost fell over i just agreed and was like whatever.

He had a GLITTER PAINTED mustang with a bodykit and exhaust. probably a v6 it was slow and quiet. But after embarassing himself by completely lacking in any knowledge of my car he offers me automotive parts andaudio parts at his store "ultimate audio" Apparently he didnt connect my name and face but when he said what store he owned i knew who he was right away, this guy last year wanted to fight me because i went around saying how crap Ultimate Audio was because my friends amps fell off the mounts the put in.

i HATE these idiots.

kevin.

teknics 01-04-2004 06:21 PM

oh and like amp says, ive tried teaching people about the car when they ask but most simply refuse to listen or are blatantly too stupid to ever understand.

kevin.

Eyxom 01-04-2004 06:42 PM

Yea I've had that happen at the car shows before... It seems a lot of people hear rotary but they must think it's like "Hemi" or something... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png I remember when I first learned what a rotary was, although I looked it up on the internet and learned about it's potential.

I've had the same thing happen a few times, but there are different people, receptive, and retarded.

Retarded: "So how many pistons you got? (None) What do you mean you don't have pistons? (I mean, I don't have pistons... It's a rotary motor) What's a rotary? (It's like a rounded off triangle in a three stage motor) ...? (Nevermind...) What motor is that? (13B) You mean B13 right? Like my Honda motor? ( ::sighs:: ) How many liters is it? (1.3) Oh man it must be slow... (...) You gonna put skunk2 valve springs in this beast? (I don't have valves) Yea right man, I'm not that stupid!"

Receptive: "So how many pistons you got? (None) What do you mean you don't have pistons? (I mean, I don't have pistons... It's a rotary motor) Would you mind explaining how it works?"

Second scenario is much more pleasing, and much easier to make believers out of people when they actually are humble enough to "listen."

because the horsepower of 1.3L turbo charged FC is equivalent to power of 6 cylinder car

Apex13B 01-04-2004 06:53 PM

i have a rotor, housing and junk middle plate in my trunk with a cut e-shaft that was garbage also. I take it out, spin it around and they understand and become very interested.

how do you group an engine in a power group? i mean i can make a 6-cylidner as powerful as a stock 8cylinder, does that make it an 8 cylinder? no it's just a powerful 6 cylinder.

my rotary isn't the equivalent of a 6-clyinder, it is a rotary.

just like a rose is a rose is a rose.

Its this simple to explain if you have all the equipment ready to go!

If you already carry around a laptop for your pfc dialogic and WB, it makes it a lot easier to explain and people can grasp the concept much easier.

Ignorant person walks up drawn by the uniqueness of the sound and style of any rx

Asks: how many cylinders, valves, crank, rods, pistons, or any other thing a rotary doesn’t have

Your simple reply is to: carefully pull out the lap top, pop up any one of numerous Gif animations and say it doesn’t have any of those: but it does do this.

Beats the spinning dorito in a epitrochoidal path explanation almost every time:thumbup:

Its best to get to the high schoolers, they’ve got more cash than them damn cheapskate elementary kids.

You know I didn’t mean it that way

It just really opens someone eyes to see that there is more ways to harness the power of combustion than simply going up and down.

I have tried describing it to dye hard engine guys and regular people, but until they see it in action and understand from seeing those two rotors spinning, you can really see them drought all they know from 20 plus years of experience with boingers and really start asking real questions once they get past all the mystery.

That is the way I try to look at the situation. But when I am dealing with a stupid kid who is ignorant and has watched too much TV, I act arrogantly and blow him off like I am superior to him because I have rotary knowlege, while he has an aluminum wing.

kevin.

Although the rotary is not identical to a 6 cyl. from a power delivery per crank revolution standpoint, it shares six combustion events per two revolutions like a six cylinder, so if someone won't try to understand the concept of a rotary engine, I say "it's about the equivalent of a DOHC Vtec V6" . . . dohc for the higher flowing street port and vtec for the aux ports which change port timing for higher rpm.

Most idiots know vtec and dohc, so they will relate to that.

Rednecks i've found find the rotary concept funnier than the ricers do.

Here we go the age old argument...

Yeah I agree 1.3 litres too. I have never seen a Mazda RX-7 or RX-8 advertised as a 2.6 litre engine. Always 1.3 litre. You can argue this... Or you can argue that... But you cannot argue how the manufacturer classifies/is permitted to classify it's engine...

Anyway my sig from day one here has explained my frustration with explaining rotaries...

JT-Imports 01-04-2004 08:46 PM

hehe I love this one..

1.3 liter agreed also

thats why my MR2 was a 8.0liter engine. 2.0 for each piston https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

defprun 01-04-2004 08:47 PM

In england, the only reason its classified as double the displacement, is because if it was classified as a 1.1 or 1.3 litre, it wouldnt be a sports car, and it wouldnt be in the same fuel consumption bracket. It's just placed as double so that it is within a certain class of vehicle.

Dramon_Killer 01-04-2004 08:48 PM

Still, 1300cc engine = 1.3 liter.

JT-Imports 01-04-2004 08:54 PM

Yeah JAPAN is the same way. Its doesnt all depend on the liter though, they are smart about it.

if you have say a NA MR2 SW20

which is a 2.2 liter taxes LOW

Turbo version 2.0 SW20 liter Taxes LOW

Big ass frucking turbo 2.0 SW20, your plate changes $$$$$ and your taxes go HIGH

I wonder if the 12A is a 2400liter in England then?

Right 1300cc do equal 1.3 litre...

However some ppl argue that the actual displacement is 2600cc because of the number of combustion cycles per revolution or some ****... I don't even know that side of the argument... Maybe some one can explain it to me.

Fluid Dynamics 01-04-2004 09:22 PM

Though the 13b physically displaces 1.3 litres, it consumes 2.6 litres of the air / fuel mix per two revolutions of the output shaft. In equivalency terms, compared to a four stroke piston engine which consumes, hypothetically, 5.0 litres per two revolutions of the output for a typical V8, the 13B is equivalent to a 2.6 litre if thinking in terms of actual air / fuel consumed.

You have been schooled.

JT-Imports 01-04-2004 09:27 PM

Damn wouldnt one full cycle make it a 3.9 liter then?

Either way doesnt matter, Mazda calls it a 1.3liter and its their engine make so WTFC
