Where in Iowa? It's about 1150 miles from Ames, IA to Lake Hiawatha, NJ. I can't remember how long it took me to drive out last time, but probably around 18 hours.

1150 miles, in 4 hours? so you're average speed is ~287mph?
i made it to vermont from NJ in 4 hours, including driving in the wrong direction for a good hour. we did 110mph from the second we touched the NY Thruway until we got to the university of vermont, 110 down a country dirt road in a durango with 5 people in it while playing chicken since the whole state seems to be a giant passing lane is always good fun.

I don't go through Michigan. From NJ I'd just hop on 80 and go through PA, OH, IN, IL, and then IA. Dubuque is in the northeast corner of Iowa, so it's closer than here.
if you go to "yahoo maps" it's THERE. "Detroit" .. which I hope to my thoughts... uhhh michigan.....
