only thing I find usefull about the volume control for each speaker on my Yamaha reciever is it enabled me to run all my speakers at the same time and have none of those bullshit effects, you can also change the dealy settings, so you can set them all to play at the same time and full volume. Those effect settings just put a delay on certain speakers at certain times to give the effect the sound is moving around and ****, gets annoying.

60" Sony Grand Wega will be my christmas gift to myself next year when Im in my house.

we completed the purchases last night

the hitachi is a 43", not a 47"...my bad

when he said satellite, I think he was just using that term to mean the surround speakers...they're not chordless, if that's what you're thinking

it just sucks that it's not something I can hook up once I got it home, because we have to rearrange an entire room, and I have to find an easy way to run the speaker wires under the base boards and stuff like that

I unloaded the tv from a borrowed gmc 3500 long bed by myself, and I tell you, that was one of the most financially scary moments of my life...but it worked out

I can't wait to set it all up, though it will be a lot of work, but I'm sure it will definitely be worth it

Personally I went with a Sony Wega XBR 36" and built around that with a Denon 3801, and Denon 5 Disc DVD Changer. As for the speakers I have to agree with Joe Flo... having worked at an electronics lab not only did we get the speakers at cost, but we tested the hell out of em, and the Bose just plain sucked even for the at cost price. Then you consider the mark up on them. I personally went with Acoustic Research all around. I got all my stuff dirt cheap off a wholesaler and love it. The only stuff I like better is Paradigm but that's too damn much money for me since I don't have a hookup with them. If you can take a listen to AR's stuff I think you'll be amazed especially for the price. When you go to buy your front speakers if you're getting larger ones make sure they have two inputs one for highs and another for lows. The wiring for that is a bit more expensive but when you hook them up for the first time you'll be amazed. I spent about 300 on wiring alone but it was worth it. I screwed up and bought decent stuff to start with but then went out and bought better wiring and nicer banana clips and it just looks and sounds better. just my 2 cents

since we never had anything to start with, I think I'll hook up what we have, and then later decide what to upgrade, after I've had some experience with it

I really appreciate everyone's comments...it helps me feel more confident in our purchase...we may not have chosen the best, but, evidently, we didn't choose bad stuff
