I've always been intrigued with Rotary engines (How the hell did Felix Wankel ever think up of something like this), so I thought id join up (Even though I own a WRX). So Hi

I actually have a question about motor oils used in Mazda Rotary engines, why is it you cannot use a fully synthetic motor oil in a Rotary engine, and is it really true that its not worth rebuilding a Rotary engine if its shot?

rotary engines burn a small amount of oil on purpose, to help lubricate the seals. synthetic oil turns nasty when it burns, not good for the engine.

the engine can be rebuilt, depending upon what got damaged determines what parts get replaced, and what gets re-used, same as a piston engine

...actually recent research shows that you CAN use synthetic and it's all a big myth that you can't. Pretty sure Racing Beat puts synthetic in all their engines and recommends it on their site. If you can't believe them...who do ya believe? Also, I think this is a repost...there's been a huge discussion about this on one of the 7 sites if not this one.

I am running Amsoil Synthetic 20W50 Racing oil in my car. I have taken out the oil injectors and use Pettits Protek premix.

You can run Synthetic in your rotary. Do a search abd you will find a whole thread on it. I think 9BASE3 started a thread a while back about it.

Yeah i heard something like that.

I run mobil 1 in my modded FD. It did make the engine smoother, but synthetic opens up more leaks.
