Jen got a call from her dad, saying her mum's very sick. She left to go to Sydney on Wednesday morning and has being having bad luck ever since. Left Canberra and about 2 hours out got a flat, went to change the tyre and the spare was flat too. She drove it to the next service station (Petrol Station) and got the tyre fixed. She then put petrol in and don't know what she was thinking about and put in leaded petrol. She said the car started to smoke alot and got done by the local RTA (Road Transport Authority) for High level of Polution and got a defect sticker. I want to know has it done any damage to the motor, or is it because of the petrol. I know that leaded petrol has oil in it and that could be the cause of smoke. I thought I'd ask you guy's what you think.

Thanks Luis.

We couldn't get it in Sydney, we had to get some lead replacement fuel, but it shows how behind Canberra is. I found out the other day that canberra has 360,000 people only, and 2 rotary mechanic.

I run 110 octane leaded in my REW. I have never hurt it. I am assuming you have the catalytic converter though. I run open pipes.

I would imagine 1 tank of leaded will not hurt it. It might foul your cat a little but it would take more than 1 tankful to really damage it.

I was warned that leaded will foul my O2 sensor. I can expect 300 hours from it with unleaded and 30 hours w/ leaded. That kind of gives you an idea on how bad it fouls up the exhaust side.

She'll be fine. The leaded is probably really good for the internals of the engine as it is lubricates as it burns.

I'm going to call her sometime in the morning and tell her to put in Optimax fuel in on the next tank and see if it cleans her up.

Thanks for the info Jim.

yes jim is right it wont hurt the engine. The deposits from the leaded fuel will foul up your 02 sensor and your cat. One tank shouldn't be to harsh. if you run more than one tank you need to change you fuel filter. unless you stay with leaded..you can go from unleaded to leaded with not much trouble, but trying to go back after running on leaded for a while will cause problems
