Well, those of you who know my recent story with my POS daily driver should kind of see where this is going.

I need a new daily ASAP, but just dont have the money for one so one of the others has to go.

The easy choice would be the GTO, I wouldnt be doing anything with it for probably 10 years at least, and it will be scrap by then.

But, my dad bought the car only three months used as the first owner got too many speeding tickets and has had it up until I turned 16, whence I got it and drove it around for 3-4 years, then I got the TII.

He always planned on restoring it, but it just doesnt look like hes ever going to be able to do it.

Opinions? thoughts? God I would hate to sell the RX-7 https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

UniqueTII 01-06-2003 03:34 PM

I say sell the 7, in spite of how much as I'd want you to sell the GTO to my mom's boyfriend. It's always easier to find another TII, especially an S4.

BigTurbo74 01-06-2003 03:42 PM

how much do u want for it....? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Geoffman72 01-06-2003 03:44 PM

Thats another thing. I could probably barely get what I paid just for the car back out of this RX-7. I never planned on selling it.

Plus I've had it since it had fairly low miles on it. Couldnt even find many low mileage TIIs then, much less now.

I'm still working on getting pics of the GTO BTW

turbovr6 01-06-2003 03:44 PM

My first car(17 yo) was a 1970 GTO. Ahh I miss that beast. Should have never sold it! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

KEEP THE GOAT!!!

I was hoping to ask for 5k. I'm obviously pretty negotiable though.

The only thing I want is for it to go to somebody with the time and means to give it a full professional restoration.

(oh, and book on this car fully restored is 18k FYI https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub... )

UniqueTII 01-06-2003 03:49 PM

Well, if you do sell the GTO to Ray, I can assure you it will be kept in pristine condition every second of every day. He had a 67 Firebird (it was more his ex wife's) that I never saw a speck of dirt on...ever! He also had a Chevy stepside with chrome bars and whatnot that was always spotless...even when he had the truck he still drove his rusty Celebrity because he wasn't worried about things happening to it.

BigTurbo74 01-06-2003 03:50 PM

got $300 CASH CASH CASH.... :smirk:

Leetheslacker 01-06-2003 03:52 PM

keep the 7. If you sell it we're gonna have to kick you off of this board. :bigok:

Interesting. The big hold up in getting pics is, I need a SCSI PCI adapter to use my old scanner with. I'll probably just borrow a friends digi cam soon, that would be easier.

UniqueTII 01-06-2003 03:54 PM

Maybe I'll just tell him to drive out and see it...lol. Do you have that old pic of it with your TII that used to be your sig?

I really wish I was able to clean it up. Its just been sitting in the garage collecting dust. I go out and start it and the RX-7 up every week or so to let them get oiled up and all, but I havent actually washed the GTO since I got the RX-7. It looks rather....grey, right now

vosko 01-06-2003 03:59 PM

which do you want more ? that should tell you which one to keep......

Well, the big thing is whether I should give the GTO back to my dad for him to try doing something with it, even though im pretty sure he wont and I'll have sold the RX-7 for nothing.

Geoffman72 01-06-2003 04:17 PM

I'm really tempted, if I sold the GTO, to buy a cheap AWD beater, then get a reason to make a new sig with no body roll :bigok:

norotor_nomotor 01-07-2003 05:17 PM

The gto is a nice car but i personally would take the 7 no matter what condition, if your going to restore something do it to the turbo II

Rob x-7 01-08-2003 04:39 PM

I take it you need the funds from the sale of one of the two cars for a daily

driver?

The GTO would be cheaper to keep because you can get classic insurance on

it, im sure you already have that right? Plus it has that sentimental value,

if its just space you need, give the GTO back to dad for now for safe keeping,

I know of my dad gave me a car he had for so long I would feel honored to have

it and strive to restore it to see the look in my dad's eyes, even if it takes a bit longer,

oh well right?

You can buy another S4 TII anytime you want one.

Eh, the GTO would NOT be cheaper to keep unless I completely redid the engine, converted it to EFI, and threw in a 6 speed so you cant watch the gas gauge move with the tach.

Its completely unpractical. I've decided I'm going to take pictures of the GTO with my friends digicam and see what I can get for it.

I would like to see it restored, which is why I'm probably going to sell it. I would rather invest in the RX-7 and I doubt my dad will be doing anything with it.

Rotarydragon 01-08-2003 09:18 PM

I'd keep the GTO and ditch the 7.

7's are pretty easy to obtain, GTO's are not.

The movie of course. That car was awsome until they put that **** into the interior. I especialy liked the lack of door handles, they replaced them with electronic buttons mounted by the driver's side window. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Geoffman72 01-08-2003 10:18 PM

That car looks like it started out in much worse shape than mine is right now looking under the hood.

Looks like they just did body work, interior, cut the roof off, and the other customizations.

Hm..maybe I should restore mine then sell it on ebay under the title;

"Pontiac GTO for sale, like used in the movie xXx!" Then add Fast and Furious for good measure :rice:

Srce 01-08-2003 10:22 PM

LOL, perhaps, but I'm planning on a GTO myself about 5 years down the road. Like this one, must be a 4 speed, 1966 or 67, and be either black or dark purple.

neoamd 01-09-2003 12:38 PM

hmm.. I think you need to ask yourself this:

Do you like to turn without droping to 10mph?

Id keep the 7. Im not much of a GTO fan.. dad had one.. heavy..

Josh

neoamd 01-09-2003 12:40 PM

oh it was a black 67 4 speed.. the only reason he liked it was because how easy it was to work on..

Rob x-7 01-09-2003 04:05 PM

That is just a ignorant comment, a GTO can be made to handle EASILY.

You think they only sell upgraded suspension components for RX-7s?

They sell sway bars thicker then your arm for GTOs, every part needed from shocks-springs-bushings, etc, put some 17-18 inch rims on it and you can have it handle just as good.

Between my boss and his son they have 4 GTOs and 1 Lemans, they are nice cars and cannot in anyway be compared to a RX-7, apples and oranges.

But you will NEVER EVER see RX-7s in 30 years worth what GTOs are worth now, if they even survive.

Geoffman72 01-09-2003 04:27 PM

Yeah, see earlier where I stated the book on my car now and if restored :bigthumg:

Rob x-7 01-09-2003 04:30 PM

well honestly unless you can take every part of a car apart and do the body

and paint and mechanicals yourself, your talking a easy $50,000 to have it restored

by someone else.

Geoffman72 01-09-2003 04:36 PM

I wouldnt let anyone else touch it unless they bought it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Rob x-7 01-09-2003 04:38 PM

thats kind of what I mean, if you dont have the time to put into it,

it might be time to let it go https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

Geoffman72 01-09-2003 05:14 PM

Thats what I said in the first place :squint: https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
