Shot a Glock .45 and a Smith & Wesson 9mm today.

The Glock .45 is a very nice gun but I cannot say it was the most comfortable gun I have ever shot. It seemed accurate and its action was nice but the trigger guard's design was not the best for me, as it would slam into my hand after a shot was fired.

The Smith & Wesson 9mm had a hard time chambering rounds at times. This may have been due to a dirty or unmaintained gun but I cannot say for sure. This gun also seemed fairly accurate and fit my hand a little better than the Glock.

good info

How was the kick of the Glock .45 compared to the S&W 9mm?

The Glock .45 definitely had more recoil but it was not intolerable. In all fairness, the S&W was not a composite gun (heavier) and it was a smaller caliber so it should have kicked less.

I would say that I had approximately a 4 to 4.5 inch spread with both guns on the targets at 15 yards. I was using CCI Blazers.

One of the guys at the range was trying to sell me on the Springfield Armory XD40, .40 caliber. He said that it was given the NRA "Handgun of the Year" award last year and it costs over $100 less than comparable Glocks and Sigs. I read some online reviews and it does sound pretty good.

I have found Glocks and other "plastic" guns have a sharper recoil than heavier brands that are made of metal.

Muzzle velocity also has a bearing on the perception of recoil. I find that a 9mm Glock for instance, would have a nastier recoil than say, a .45 Colt 1911A1. The .45 is a big chunk of lead, but it's not going all that fast.
