BTW- I mean of the whole idea of the steering wheel controller thing at all, not necessarily GT4's specific one.

I'd like to try a force-feedback wheel, preferebly something that's designed to be used on the lap (I've seen them in stores), but I'd like to hear some reviews before purchasing.

I had a Logitech force feedback wheel designed for F-Zero GX and I've gotta say that the lap feature sucks. You're better off getting a nice wide-spaced tv tray of some kind. I kept having to jerk the wheel back and forth and then flex my legs together to keep it from flying from my lap. Doing all of this while also using gas/brake pedals is not the way to go.

Does it have to be bolted down to said tray? I've got some of those, but they're rather nice. Do most people build their own tray/desk for driving wheels?

The one I had came with these little "feet" type clamps that were adjustable. Most people do indeed build their own trays and desks. If were to go through any trouble like that though, I'd get a low sitting tv tray that came to about my chest with the wheel in place that would allow me to a) strengthen it's "turn over 'oh **** no' ability" with extra legs coming from the original ones and b) reinforce the bottom so that when I get excited with the pedals, they stay in place.
