Strait from the horses mouth http://www.buell.com/en_us/company/

Buell is Harley's sportbike line, I always wondered who the **** bought the ugly noisy things, now i know..... no one did!

1988RedT2 10-19-2009 06:48 AM

Wow. I always just assumed that Buell was a foreign company. Didn't think they were right here, a subsidiary of Harley, no less!

Baldy 10-19-2009 08:24 AM

Harley's demographic is old white guys with lots of money to blow on useless crap. Their demographic has been shrinking rapidly, or choosing to not spend their money on stupid stuff. I'm guessing Harley is pulling money from Buell to help out their other bikes.

I can't see how Harley can survive. Harley riders have built up a reputation of elitist close-minded pricks, and the bikes have a reputation of being unreliable and overpriced. Whether these statements are fact or not doesn't matter, it's the perception. Also, it's hard to pass up a bike that's just as big, has a reputation of being bullet proof reliable, just as pretty, and half the price.

All the "young" bikers I know driver sport bikes. And why not? You can go faster than anything on four wheels for $10k. My dad is 50, he drives a Honda 1800, and the guys he rides with have a Yamaha cruiser, Yamaha sport tourer, and a Kawasaki cruiser.

Rob x-7 10-19-2009 08:41 AM

they announced that pretty early last week, I hear the bikes are half price right now.

TYSON 10-19-2009 09:46 AM

i think I've seen one Buell on the road, and that had to be 5 years ago!

That's pretty funny too, since the whole streetfighter segment of bikes should play to them, but they couldn't take advantage. I see Ducati Monsters fairly often.

TYSON 10-19-2009 02:13 PM

We should buy some, I'm sure they'll become collectors items and increase in value. Like Barrett-Jackson style

Rob x-7 10-20-2009 08:23 AM

j9fd3s 10-20-2009 12:02 PM

classic!

i thought buell was a line of helmets for a while...

Rob x-7 10-20-2009 02:25 PM

I should have just known that if you go to any new car message board all you will see is people bitching about things.

"oh my glove box lid squeeks when I open it, dealer cant fix it"......... then 3 other douchebags will go out and TRY to make thier glove box squeek "oh **** mine does too, so-and-so should recall this"

When we had the Lexus that is when I stopped going to current vehicle message boards, all they do is BITCH about nothing.

People read something and they try to get thier car to duplicate it or they imagine things wrong with the car.

phinsup 10-20-2009 05:51 PM

banzaitoyota 10-20-2009 07:32 PM

Its funny to see the different boards and how the complaints shift. Being used to driving older cars I dont mind as much with new ones, but some people are just ridiculous about the most minor of things.

I guess they expect something for all of that depreciation LOL

GreyGT-C 10-20-2009 10:26 PM

i hit the brakes in the vette and the seat shifts forward 1/2 an inch cause they use plastic bushings that wear out after 10K miles. Then you hit the gas... and you shift back 1/2 an inch

Its called american weight transfer

Rob x-7 10-21-2009 09:03 AM

I put a sub in my car this week, and a CAI, I can say that everything under the hood seems great, but man when you get to the interior it all snaps together, no tools needed, how long is this **** supposed to last before its all creaking and groaning?

phinsup 10-21-2009 09:28 AM

If it's like the Mustang about 25k and pretty much everything in the dash start rattling. The annoying part is there's not much you can do half of the creaks and rattles were in the dash. I imagine they start much sooner if you ever need to take the dash apart.

Baldy 10-21-2009 09:43 AM

Our '06 Mazda 5 has a little over 50k, both rear door locks are faulty, front passenger window just stopped working, and the driver seat is already ripping apart at the seam by the bolster. My FC had 160k and no tears in the seats. I honestly believe new cars these days are only made to last past the warranty period.

Rob x-7 10-21-2009 10:01 AM

well they do need to keep selling cars, they must fall apart to keep the economy flowing

Ouch!

Our '05 MPV is nearing 60k and it's holding up remarkably well (knock on wood). I honestly can't think of anything about it that is functioning at a sub-par level.

Maybe if you didn't autocross the vehicle every weekend, then use it daily to shuttle customers to and from your dog, cat, and jungle animal grooming business by day and then hire it out nightly as a training area for knife-fighting midgets the car would be holding up a bit better?

Listen, I don't tell you how to run your van-based prostitution/grooming/fight club, and you don't tell me how to run mine. Capisce?

HA HA.

j9fd3s 10-21-2009 06:09 PM

my friend dropped off his 90's BMW and its lived in SF in a garage its whole life and the interior is just shot... all the plastic and rubber is shirinking and falling apart...

i cant imagine what it would be like in the sun...

jaguarx7 10-21-2009 06:19 PM

That's funny, my '94 bmw has a nearly perfect interior except for the leather seats, everything still fits and looks great, and it's been in TN all it's life. My Ford Aerostar from the same period can't claim anything close to that though...
