the reason no one cares is that they dont see it as something they, the average person, will do and therefore dont want to get their hopes up of doing it. Once it becomes logical to do "average people space walks" people will regain interest....right now people are more into UFOs

People are impatient today. Thats the biggest problem. I can remember going out to lunch at a local BBQ joint after a scrubbed launch and the "tourists" in there were pissed because they wasted 4 hours of their vacation time to see nothing.
I feel sometimes NASA puts these things up even when they should not have. Challanger for example there was a discussion over how cold it was before the launch. Go to that website I posted earlier look at the launch before Challanger it Mission 61-c. It was scrubbed so many times I lost count. I remember that one being scrubbed so many times. It was pissing everyone off. Challanger was delayed 5 times before it was sent up. I probably should have been scrubbed again due to how cold it was and there had not been a launch in that extreme cold before.
Hopefully NASA will revamp their entire fleet maybe even new updated vehicles. I mean think about it in 1986 I read an article in a newspaper stating that there will never be a need for any computer faster than a 286. Thats some funny stuff right there. No one would dare say that computers are fast enough now. Technology has leaped over the last 10 years. How old are the shuttles???
Space flights and exploration are important for many reasons. Go look a a few of those missions and see all that has been accomplished. Colonization of the moon is not out of the question in the future. I hope I live to see it, who know maybe even visit the moon. How cool would that be?

in the age or instant pictures via digicams..instant internet access via cable or dsl or satelite ..instant gourmet dinners via the microwave (all space program trickle down tech.) The masses of america and abroad want instant results...we want a cure for cancer tomorrow..we want a 13b that dont break (rotary generators powered the apollo missions)......and the general populous does not understand that development of the technology that we learn from the space program takes a decade to reach us (on avg)
i truly agree with phins that the space program need to be returned to its former media glory that is once had..the news olny covers the space program when bad **** goes down...not when we learn how our planet was created..
the only thing i dont like is that NASA spent 2 million on the toilet for the space shuttle and my *** is still cold when i sit down on my throne to read the newest SportCompactCar

I grew up in Mineola Apex 13B. A lot of my family lives there still. Do you know Mark Deodato?
Your right we are in an instant society. We also have no clue who the astronauts are. They should be more in the spotlight in the media. These people should be known.

They reckon that in the first space launches, there was less computer power than in a hand-held calculator.
And, I just recently heard, that because the computer systems are so old in the shuttles, the nasa scientists are having to buy parts off e-bay for the shuttle computer systems. Can you believe that?

I remember all the I want to be an astronaut, firefighter, policeman, etc.. when I was a kid. Now everyone wants to be a musician, athlete, lawyer, doctor, etc.. how cool is it to want to be a lawyer? I mean these kids are 10 years old and already know that lawyers make bank so they are already looking for monetary values in a job, nothing exciting like we used to, that is pathetic. Not that a lawyer is a bad goal in life, but for a kid to think about how much a job gets paid, that sucks ***. An athlete is a given for most kids, I know I wanted to be one, but it is fun if you make it or not, so no harm in trying.
