another favorite of mine by frost:

Stars

How countlessly they congregate

O'er our tumultuous snow,

Which flows in shapes as tall as trees

When wintry winds do blow!--

As if with keeness for our fate,

Our faltering few steps on

To white rest, and a place of rest

Invisible at dawn,--

And yet with neither love nor hate,

Those starts like somw snow-white

Minerva's snow-white marble eyes

Without the gift of sight.

lol, i dunno why everyone likes Poe. He drank ether and fucked his cousin... chances are you're gonna write some fucked up **** with that combination goin on.

From a once english major's point of view you can go with...

Alfred Lord Tennyson

Robert Frost

T.S. Elliot (His stuff is good if you can get through it)

Syliva Plath

Robert Browning

William Carlos Williams (he has an awesome poem called "The Red Wheelbarrow")

and William Woodsworth

My two pesonal reccomendations- Carlos Williams and Browning very classy poets.

Edit: Or you could go with any old school rapper (i.e. Two Pac, or Bone Thugs). If your teacher doesn't let you do a rap artists (that talks about something other than bling) then your english teacher sucks.

One of my fav poems of all time. "My Galley charged with forgetfulness" by Sir Thomas Wyatt. LINK

It's a bit hard to understand at face value, but the poem compares missing your love to being adrift on a dark and stormy sea. Good stuff. I vote for Frost too...that guy was amazing

Can you write about modern day poets like Biggie? BIG had a ******* interesting life man. I watched a biography on him.
