make sure the gears go into all gears smoothly, PPF is straight (shifter at the right height), excessive clunking, ignition breakups

compression should be 9.0:1 on all rotor faces, and boost should read 10-8-10 (8happens around 4500rpm)

If its auto just remember no one wants them when you are negotiating a price. Be prepared to walk away trust me this guy is desperate to sell this car no one wants.

Listen for bad rear differential mounts... If you let off the gas in low gear and you hear a clunk from the back of the car, it's got a bad mount(s), and that's about $500+ fix.
