How well do you know her? I'd say take it reallllllllly slow....
Also, I'm thinking that you are probably just trying to rationalize it by saying that your friend wouldn't really care and would be ok with it. The smart thing to do is go slow and make SURE she is gonna be worth the risk of losing a friend over. If so, then go for it. IF not, then wait for him to get with another girl. That's when he really won't care what you do or who she likes
FWIW, i'd be watching my back if i were you the next time she mentions to you some guy's name and says "Oh him? He's just a friend...." You'll be going nuts if you are the slightest bit the possessive/jealous type. Not a good foundation.

....she prob can't "just dump his *** right now" cuz 9base3 is her BACKUP.
At least that's what i think. Oh yeah, another thing: If/when u do get with her, just remember that there's 1 person that knows her better than you - HIM. He knows all her little weaknesses and pet peeves. It wouldn't be too hard for him to pretend to change just to take her away from you. That's why i suggest you wait to drop the bomb until he's with someone else
