The first is you are getting a mixture of all the popular brands. What they do is sell off their "bottom 1/3" of their holding tanks. due to possible high concentrations of sediments that sink to the bottom. The second option, there are some privatly owned refineries that sell to anyone. When you own a "name brand" station, you are forced to buy gas from the distributor they tell you to, and you pay whatever they want you to, thus causing the high price. The "no-name" or "independent" stations, have the freedom to call as many distributors as they wish and negotiate price. This is why "cheap" gas is "cheap" |
All gas has to conform to a set standard. It's all good.

I did a search but could not find. There is a test BMW does every year or so and they give a run down of what they feel are the best gas brands to use in their cars.
I wish I could find it. Citgo is always #1 followed by the big boys.. Hess Shell Mobil etc.. I am always weary of the independant places I am always afraid that one bad tank could screw my car. |
One supports the mid-east, the other does not..(?)

here is a little "insider info"
"cheap gas" is fine for your everyday car. For a sports car I would reccomend you stay away, just because of octane levels and things. oh and alot of the private refinaries are controlled by the russians!. Russian mob to be exact. I've had 20 or so companies come to my place to try and get us to switch to a different brand of gas, all 20 reps all told me this. It's ze russians! they are in control |
so for my FD stay away from delta, us gas, etc, correct?

I thought different companies had different additives (i.e. detergents and the such). But I could be wrong. I only use shell or 76. Chevron is too expensive for me and I don't like anything else. Cheapy gas doesn't settle well with me, companies want to be competitive, so why would they let another company undersell them if its all the same?
That and 76 is different (at least out here) since it has to MTBE in it and every other station does. |
