Gah! Concentration Camps

Just to clarify the pics of the Japanese and the babies. They would kill Chinese mothers, take their babies, throw them in the air, and have someone catch them on a bayonette. Inhumane? I'd say so...

When I lived in Germany, a few friends and I took a long weekend and went to Munich and the surrounding area. We decided to tour Dachau, and entered the grounds laughing and goofing around. Within minutes, we were all silenced. The museum there and the power of the place is indescribable. The ovens still have the ashes in them, and you can view pictures of people being tortured and/or executed right where you are standing. The part that really makes you think is that the camp is right in the middle of town, with houses all around it. There are a few accounts of local residents saying things like " I thought it was just a prison ". It's amazing what society and man is capable of taking part in or overlooking as a result of group psychology. Scary actually...
Has anyone ever read that study that a junior high school teacher did about 15 years ago to teach students about the holocaust. Without warning, the teacher divided the room into groups based on eye color or some other feature, and for the next few weeks showed favor to one group or the other. The ensuing fights, resentment, and distancing between the groups was shocking. If I remember right all of the kids were shocked when they learned what it was all about and very remorseful. I think too, that the teacher was fired or suspended. It really makes you think about why you do the things you do, and the real lack of any good reason to hate...
