My furnace is an automatic ignition (no pilot light), and it won't ignite!! Gas comes on, blower runs, but no flame, no heat. Any suggestions?

I've heard those ignitors go bad.



Do you here the ignitor "clicking" trying to ignite?

unplug it and plug it back in. should ignite. i'm serious i have had the same problem before.

 

Pull the front door off and see what it's doing when it tries to ignite. There is preobably a cut switch so it will not ignite when the front door is off but just hold that switch down. On Lennox furnaces, it's a little rocker type switch, so it's very easy to bypass.

You should hear the blower fan come on for about 30 seconds, then the gas valve will click and the ignition will spark a second later. If it doesn't fire in a few seconds, release the switch to shut the furnace down. Wait 10 minutes and try again.



Are you sure there's gas? I've used a grill lighter, long handled lighter, to shoot a flame in there by the ingiter and see if it fires. If it does, you know the ignitor is bad, if it doesn't, the gas valve is probably bad. If this is the first time the furnace is started this season, it may take a few tries to fire it up. I've been to many house calls when the furnace would not light on the first cold night. Reason being the gas in the gas line has gotten old it will not ignite. After a few tries, fresh gas has gotten to the furnace and it fire up.

It auto-locks out after 4 tried. Stays off for an hour.



I think so, I can't smell gas persay (weak sense of smell), but I do get light headed in the furnace room.

I'm not sure where the Ignitor is - nothing in there looked like a spark plug, lol. The warning on the cover said not to light it with a flame, so is it okay to do or no?



Makes sense, are those parts expensive?

It is the first time, but it's been trying every hour for the last 2 days..

No clicking - i hear the gas valve open, but I've never heard an ignition sound..
