so i guess about 6 months or better ago my check engine light flips on in my truck, i throw my code scanner on it and it's an evaporative emissions error, take it to the dealer and they say to bring it back with an empty tank so they can drop it and check for leaks, i take it to them a few weeks later on a near empty tank, dude gives it back and says make sure you tighten the gas cap lol, engine light comes back on a week or so later, take it back yesterday and they keep it over night. Dude calls ans says tey dropped the tank and need to do a smoke test for leaks, calls me back a few hours later, says their test equipment is broken, i can come pick it up and they will call me when they get new test equip.

So 3 trips to the dealer for what should be a simple fix and a forth one in the near future, i hope to hell nothing major ever happens to my truck or i am going to have to find a different dealer.

EVAP codes are very hard to fix, no matter what kind of car it is

you would be suprized in how many evap issues mazdas have, luckly for my dealer ower test equipment is fully up to date and we have a praxair just around the corner from us incase we run out of gas for the smoke machine that is used to find the leaks. phinsup i wouldnt worry to much about it, i bet it was a p0456 or something like that wich is a gross evap leak or there may be a small one in but in any case a evap problem does not affect the way the vehical operates and only runs the evap test periodicly and under certain sercomstances. and from what i have seen on b series trucks is the damn fuel pump gasket mostly and some times the gas cap is faulty, but this is in my region wich is the north. down in the south may be differnt do to the weather n such. also have seen a few purge valves go bad on the b3000 only, and i dunno why its only on the 3000s n not all b- series. anyways evaps are nothing to worrie about but it does suck there jerking you around.

o ya if they said they had to drop your tank to do a evap test on your truck , there full of ****, its faster and easyer aswell as more accurate to lift the truck bed off the vehical to get to the tank,,,,,,, that way there is no hose removal and the test can be preformed as the truck was when it failed its selftest. you can take that back with you to the dealer and shove the drop the tank buisness up there ***, there is no need on a truck to do so.
