ok my buddy has a 1988 ford mustang 5.0, supposively the guy he bought it off of said he put in a 1997 high output 5.0? did they still make the 5.0 in 1997? and if so how much horsepower does the 1997 5.0 motor have? thanks for the info. piece

go there it said in 97 all they had was a 4.6 liter

 

The 4.6 was debuted in either 96 or 97, so no they didn't have the 5.0 in 97.

 

Although i think that site is a little off, it is saying 305 HP for the 4.6 liter and I think the Cobra 4.6 liter barely cranks out 305

95 was the last year for the 5.0 96 started the 4.6 and it makes about 225hp stock,,,lol@305

Ford still made the block, so maybe his friend put a new motor in that was made in 87, doesnt mean he took the engine from a 1997 Mustang for his car. You can still buy the 5.0 HO motor from Ford, just cant get it in a Mustang. You can also get that 5.0 HO from Summit, so your friend may not be talking ****. To further answer your question, if he did get a new block in 1997, the horsepower would be the same as stock- 225 I believe it was rated at, maybe 215, if he put a HO GT40 motor in , I think its more like 275 or so.
