Yeah you can do some really crazy stuff to the stangs and not have to worry much about reliablity.

And they don't cost too terribly much.

I still love my rotaries.
Why does everyone think that anything you do to a V8 is cheap?

Yeah, I know, but they shouldn't talk if they don't know anything about it.

I was refering to the cost of the mustang itself, not modding the engine itself

Stroking, boring, milling and blue printing an engine costs a mint. So do the nice high ratio rockers, a funky engle cam and all the other nifty things.

Come to think of it, it costs a lot to mod a VW engine right to. Cima pistons and barrels, Berg 041 heads...Whooo hoOO!

A well built V8 can easily run way past $10,000. For $10,000 you could build a great rotary motor AND have money left over for a turbo setup and ECU.

Oh heck yeah, it gets up there in a hurry. Lovely thing about the rotary is no cams and crap to worry about. Just drill bigger holes and POOF!

Some V8's can have some fairly low cost things done to great affect and not hurt reliablity all that much, but after a certain point it's gonna get REAL costly.

Like I said, I like my rotary engines.

400 hp stang vs 400hp FD... dunno would be a good race....

prolly come down to driver.... hard to say though....

but yeah I love those damn FD's!! Got to get me one!!!
Fd would win if not anything but the weight differance, also on the highway the mustang has no chance, can't rev

Well hell I am looking into buying 200 CC heads and intake manifold. With bigger injectors and an MAF meter I will be at or past the 350 mark... which means roughly 1100 in parts...

Also Revving does mean something but remember a V8's powerband.

Do dismiss The V8 so quickly....

I mean most of my power is ontap from 3400 and up... but a significant amount is still there down low....

Dont get me wrong I love rotaries and I love RX7's. But a 400hp mustang is also unlikely to quit revving at 5400rpm. **** I got mine setup to run to about 5800rpms. Which buys me a bit more... and has won several races for me... but..... a 400hp mustang probably is going to rev to 6500rpms or so or at least thats what I have seen at the track. Rebuilding a V8 isnt cheap but it isnt that expensive either.... When you can buy a 600hp 514 BB Ford motor for 5200 bux that aint bad.. and that is around 500+ ft lbs of torque also.... that right there is easy 10's....

So I think this race would be a good one.....

also had to put this in here..... a 5.0L coupe 5 spd back in 88 and 89 weighed less than 3000lbs.... around 3050lbs with a fat driver and full tank of gas.... Not too shabby....

Right now if I had a chance to buy a car for under or at 20k it would be an FD.... Those are just ******* badass.... lol and got to admit something about beating a V8 with 1.3liters.... lol Remember I am not a Full blown V8 guy.... I still want to do a turbo 2.3 for my 89 Coupe..... Which would be a lot of fun that car handles pretty well... better than my 89 GT....

Uh I guess that 1000 lpd difference doesn't mean anything to you huh?

I think it's safe to say the RX7 would kill the 'stang.
