Alright,

so my FD's break-in is done, drove it over 2k mile and only had one run in with a heater hose. Its been rock solid other then that. So i finally got around to scheduling a tuning session on the dyno (just in time for the Jun 8th bear mtn meet)

Anywho lets make some predictions for my final whp and see who comes closest:

Mods:

Big streetport Intake and exhaust (if we have to name it a stage id say stage 2 intake, stage 3 exhaust)

3mm 89 t2 rotors

PFS Large SMIC

850/1600 injectors in kg rails

Walbro 255lph pump

aeromotive fpr

T04Z, tubular ss manifold, 3" downpipe

Straight exhaust no cats, no muffler

46mm tial wg open to atmosphere

4" K&N right on the turbo

9's all around

stock ignition

PFC

93 octane gas

thats all i remember atm.

guesses?

amp 06-06-2008 05:02 AM

at what boost...

teknics 06-06-2008 09:19 AM

No idea yet. I know themadeup limit is 15psi, I'm trying for 20psi if it handles it on pump gas

Kevin.

Rob x-7 06-06-2008 10:27 AM

due to pump gas im saying 425-450?

im not up on all these turbos, but pump gas limits things

TheRX7Project 06-06-2008 11:27 AM

416whp

teknics 06-06-2008 12:21 PM

yea I think I'm gonna run out of fuel pump. Got a Meth kit to install but never got around to installing it, well save it for next time. My goal for this trip is 450whp, with Meth I want at least 500

More power with meth! ^^

treceb 06-06-2008 02:27 PM

whos tuning it?

i think 430 with a close to the limits tune.

1988RedT2 06-06-2008 05:57 PM

Don't call me a pessimist, but something always rears its head at first dyno pulls. I'll say 398. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.gif

teknics 06-06-2008 06:13 PM

considering i blew the first motor in under 500 miles...im thinking gods may be on my side with the first dyno pull, i mean they kicked me in the nuts with that last one

kevin.

jwteknix 06-06-2008 06:17 PM

******* sweet!! kev you gotta chill wit me some timeT wana ride in it!!

teknics 06-07-2008 12:43 PM

2 horrible words.

Ignition breakup.

More when I get home.

Kevin.

jwteknix 06-07-2008 02:01 PM

nice cant wait to here this one

1988RedT2 06-07-2008 03:50 PM

WTF? Is he gonna keep us on the edge of our seats all afternoon? LOL. Seriously, I keep checking to see if he's posted anything.

I'm getting lots done today. Son's teeball game first thing this morning, then a little time at the pool, visited some friends, back home for some eats. Too damn hot to go work in the garage.

Stanello 06-07-2008 03:51 PM

HKS TwinPower is the way to go.

TheRX7Project 06-07-2008 04:47 PM

Points disty FTW

teknics 06-07-2008 06:23 PM

its actually not a power problem. Once we got to high load and higher then 12psi there was a hard miss, sounded like a 2 step getting activated. at 15psi and 6000rpm it would cut off and just miss hard.

Of course I had new plugs in there, and the wires are new as of the first motor build. So we're assuming the ignition harness, coils, or ignitor are shot. That and the 90deg, 60%+ humidity and it turned out to not be too good.

So instead we went and focused on the highest boost we could run without missing (11psi) tuned it for that and then tuned the drivability. Car is a million times smoother now and its fun to finally boost and redline the motor without worrying.

So monday im gonna order new stock coils and ignition harness, then find out if i can test the ignitor or try to find one that I know is good just in case the one thats in there is shot.

Honestly other then the PFS Large SMIC the coils, ign harness and ignitor are probably the only things I havent replaced on my multiple swaps.

Somewhat pissed about having to stop at 11psi. On a rough tune, 15 psi, and horrible breakup until a cutout at 6k rpm we hit 350whp on the dyno dynamics (app. from what i read DD is generally 10% lower then dynojet) that of course is also with the far from ideal weather. So I'm satisfied that the power is there once i replace the ignition.

So for the next trip up there we'll add on methanol injection, full new ignition and see what we can get out of it. Figure with meth we should be able to get to 20psi safely.

Had an awesome time tho, post pics later saw tons of great **** while i was slowly melting and dying in the sun.

FD + no heatwrap + few heatshields + 90+ degrees + 60% humid + no a/c + stop and go traffic home = i lost 10 pounds through sweating.

So in review 1988redt2 screwed my karma and was correct, but i shall avenge this defeat, in the meantime ill enjoy my 11psi, the car is nasty and fun as hell to drive now.

1988RedT2 06-07-2008 06:45 PM

All disappointment aside, it sounds like you had a very productive session. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

jwteknix 06-07-2008 08:32 PM

I love kevin he always has the best stories LOL. At least is nice to drive now and nothing really really bad happened anyway hope you get it all figured out. Hit me up

Rob x-7 06-08-2008 10:59 AM

if anything its good to drive the car knowing its running properly

no AC sucks in the V8 car, I was thinking of the bear mountain thing this weekend, Roan was trying to talk me into it- but the thought of 90+ degree heat and sitting in traffic on my only day off is not enjoyable to me.

The vert MUST KEEP AC!

Now thinking of hooking the AC up in the V8 car as well, everything is in place- just need to hook the lines up and charge the system

Stanello 06-09-2008 12:45 AM

That is normal for a stock FD ignition system. Just get an ignition amp (HKS twinpower,XS Powerpack) and call it a day.

75 Repu 06-09-2008 01:51 AM

OMG i hadn't *****d this thread yet!

yep!

Jims5543 06-10-2008 12:11 PM

400 to the wheels is hard to come by. I joined this party way to late but I was going to say I would be surprised to see you get more than 400 to the wheels.

Your fuel is going to be your biggest problem that in tank pump and stock fuel lines is not going to cut it when you shoot for over 400 to the wheels. This is what I though was going to limit you. But it sounds like you may have some ignition problems.

What did you put down at 11 PSI?

1Revvin7 06-10-2008 04:53 PM

A single turbo fd without a HKS twinfire, didn't know any existed lol..

teknics 06-10-2008 05:09 PM

Jim: @ 11psi, 60%humidity, dyno dynamics it was at 319whp. He even said with the weather we were dynoing in it was probably costing me almost 20hp alone, plus the fact the dyno dynamics are generally well lower then your regular dynojet or other dynos.

I've got a brand new set of coils, coil harness and ignitor on it's way. also ordered an HKS twinpower. That should kill off the ignition woes.

Then I've got another meth injection kit coming (dual nozzle, high pressure) which I'll be running 100% methanol from which should allow me to reduce my fuel needs decently, hopefully enough to not require more fuel system work.

Once all of thats installed I'm going to try to predict a decent day to tune and head back up again.

My total goal for the FD is 450whp, I feel confident that it's there just gotta work out the kinks.

Mind you this entire car was basically made in 2 months (if it wasnt for my first motor eating a bearing) so thats why I'm satisfied with current results.

I could easily go all out and run an A1000 external pump, run -8 to the rails etc, but thats not what this car is about (thats what the t2 is all about) I wanna see what I can squeeze from a relatively easy buildup.

Just realized i dont think i ever even posted a pic of my engine bay on here lol, ill get to that one day as well. I feel bad only pushing the t04z to 11psi...******* thing spools up in a blink of an eye tho full boost and open wastegate happens a tad too early for street driving at the moment lol.

kevin.

Jims5543 06-10-2008 05:52 PM

I run 10 PSI on the street, Autocross and on mountain roads and its more than enough, the only time I turn it up is to impress someone or for track days.

Someday I will dyno this setup and find out what its making, right now it makes me smile so I do not care what kind of power its putting down. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.gif

thats the key right there, 10psi and happy....

teknics 06-12-2008 08:47 PM

yea after driving for a few days at 11 psi and prolly about 350 at the wheels, im pretty happy and it is manageable on the roads. gonna hit up some "out of the area" roads this weekend and let 'er rip. Roasts the tires a tad easy too, found a bad spot in first gear at about 550rpm at 11psi tho, most likely a miss/backfire puffs out smoke and pops but then goes back to being normal.

definitely reconsidering the whole open WG choice tho lol.

i think im gonna get a complete tune at 11-12psi for regular driving then have a tune up to 20psi for track days and those days that im just trying to get away from the world.

The open WG on my TO4R on 14 psi was goddamn rediculous. Was like... rrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRR BRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!

Would scare women into unwilling abortion if you weren't careful!

Bwahahaha!

I still think I'm going that way if I ever get around to going full T04 on my car.

teknics 06-13-2008 08:39 AM

yes open at def. Sounds mean. ESP. When people think the car is ordinarily loud, once they hear the w/g open the car sounds silent at idle LOL. Unfortunately every cop in a 5 mile radius can hear the w/g open too.

Poss. Trading this car for a 20b fc, stay tuned.

Kevin.

jwteknix 06-13-2008 08:41 AM

sickness why arent you at work?

amp 06-13-2008 08:44 AM

imho.. you can sell the fd for more than what he is asking for his 20b...

use the rest to get a single and a tune for that motor... it also requires a great deal of freshnin up..

jwteknix 06-13-2008 08:45 AM

what 20b r u talking about?

Im torn between staying fd or getting rid of it to make an insane fc or repu. Think id rather build it myself then buy prebuilt. Had a guy offer me $14k cash for the fd as-is left me his number since I couldn't decide on the spot. Still mulling it over.

Kevin.

amp 06-13-2008 07:04 PM

nice to have the best of both worlds kev... im missin my fcs if that says anythin..

teknics 06-13-2008 08:26 PM

think i blew up the t04z tonight, or it was blown from previous motor and finally just **** out.

see 3rd gen for more info.
