I just discovered the wonderful world of emulation. This rocks!

Does anyone no where I can download Megaman 2? That was the best game ever.

banzaitoyota 10-28-2002 04:45 PM

WTF you Talkin about Willis?

Fd3BOOST 10-28-2002 04:45 PM

How do I get that emulator **** set up danny? I wanted to play Metroid but never figured that whole thing out?

Fd3BOOST 10-28-2002 04:46 PM

BTW .. Try here

P'cola FD 10-28-2002 04:50 PM

emulators let you play atari, nes, genesis, etc. games on your computer.

Go to this site and download "nesticle" http://www.geocities.com/castlevania_serie.../utilities.html

Then open the zip file. Make note of where that folder is. Then download whatever game you want. When you unzip the games, put them in the nesticle folder. Then, when you open up nesticle, go to file, and open ROM, and you will see the games.

P'cola FD 10-28-2002 04:51 PM

I already looked there Dave, but I couldn't find it.

94touring 10-28-2002 04:59 PM

Emulators are awsome, I have nes, snes, n64, sega genisis, play station and some other arcade emulators. I even bought a voodoo graphics card just to get the n64 to work perfect, I still play the hell out of mario cart 64. I'll see if I can find some of the the rom sites I use to use, I think I have all the megagames filed away somewhere on disk.

94touring 10-28-2002 05:02 PM

http://www.freeroms.com

Have fun, and if you can find it, Loopynes works perfect for me, but there are tons of other nes emulators out there.

turbovr6 10-28-2002 05:03 PM

Damn, you guys need some info? I can help you out. What you want is a program called MAME. It's the original and best working arcade emulator. As you can see I have built my own machine, all running off an old PC. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

If anyone wants, I have the mame program and every rom (about 3450 games dating from 1979 to 2001)

If you send me the cd's ( 7 of them)and I'll burn you copies for free. Just add like $2.00 to cover shipping back to you.

any questions just ask :bigok:

Super nice job man!!

SoniX 10-28-2002 06:26 PM

this site has a LOT of SNES roms, including several fansub games from japan, like the unofficial translation of Final Fantasy 3 (one of the best RPG's ever, EVER!!) Cult of Kefka

Rotarydragon 10-28-2002 07:39 PM

Try edge emulation if they're up, solid site lots of roms and links to most of the emulators out there. I'll check my computer later and see if I have that one.

I'm still looking for a PS1 emulator that runs decently so I can play Breath of Fire III again which is one of the best RPG's ever. That's saying a lot as most console RPG's blow chunks as compared to PC.

Fd3BOOST 10-28-2002 08:59 PM

Hey I downloaded the nesticle file and unzipped it into it's own folder then put two different games in the same folder with it and unzipped them also. I cant get anything to happen except my screen will justr go black. What am I missing?

P'cola FD 10-28-2002 09:01 PM

I swear. Navigating those sites is like freaking porno or something. Everytime I click something to look at the ROMs it sends me somwhere else. I just wanna play Megaman 2 and 3 and toejam and earl.

Turbovr6, that arcade console is PIMP!!

P'cola FD 10-28-2002 09:04 PM

Dave, when you open nesticle, if the screen is black, try hitting the space bar to bring up the menu. Did you look over the readme file? It has some pretty helpful info in there.

EpsxE is a good one, very very nice, can be a bit hard to find, and you need module type doohickeys for video, sound, cdrom, and controller support, but everything is usually on the same site, in one big package, it is nice because if one driver doesn't work for something, you can just use a different one, much like linux, which 0wnz j00 by the way :bigthumg:

Rotarydragon 10-28-2002 10:37 PM

Don't use nesticle, use FECU Ultra it works mucho better

Fd3BOOST 10-28-2002 10:39 PM

Well I don't get it because I can't get **** to work and it doesn't make any sense to me and It's starting to piss me off. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/flamed.gif

dysthymia 11-04-2002 04:03 AM

RD is right about FCE Ultra and Edge Emulation. You'll also want to hit www.zophar.net for everything emulation related, except for ROMs.

rotarychainsaw 11-04-2002 07:53 AM

Drift out '94 is a cool game. Its for MAME and the rom name is drifto94. I highly reccomend it. its like 20mb though.

Dysfnctnl85 11-04-2002 03:03 PM

TurboVR6...DUDE! That's pretty much all I can say.

Question: how can I do that? We have a "game room" I guess you can call it, at my house...and I want one of these in it. About how much does it cost to make one?

I would like to add something else other than pinball machines... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

SoniX 11-04-2002 03:22 PM

I would say, depends on how much work you are willing to do with your hands, seems to me the hardest part would be making the cabinet, and maybe fitting the screen, other than that, it is all building a computer, and hooking up some buttons, which I don't imagine would be that big of a deal, hmmm, I think I need an arcade machine in my house some where.

tuxracer 11-04-2002 03:39 PM

Do any of you guys know a good front end for Xmess? I know Xmame has some pretty nifty ones, but there's a lack of decent front ends for the console side.

Dysfnctnl85 11-04-2002 04:20 PM

I can't figure out the controls nor how to adjust them with MAME32. Any ideas?

I'm sittin here trying to play Mortal Kombat, and all I can do is kick. Hah.

My dad is a carpenter, so the cabinet would be easy...I'm pretty good with computers (except for figuring out these controls...) so I think I could handle that part, but what about the joystick controls??? And making sure they work for every game?

Dysfnctnl85 11-04-2002 04:24 PM

This site seems to have a lot about building these machines, if anyone else is interested...just found it!

I'm assuming the windows version of mame runs like the linux version. Try hitting tab while running a particular rom. You can then set your controls...

Maybe I should run the windows version of mame using an emulated version of windows under linux... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Dysfnctnl85 11-04-2002 05:51 PM

Yeah I finally figured it out, it was difficult to figure out what buttons do what CONTROLS in the game, that is. You know? Anyways, plenty of fun.

Heres another, this site is awsome for crack codes as well.

P'cola FD 11-04-2002 10:16 PM

I still can't figure out how to make it save my games in nesticle. I do what it says to, but I get an error message.

94touring 11-04-2002 10:43 PM

Go to the megagames website and into the emulator section to L, and download Loopynes. Its so easy to use and works so great. You can save a game by pressing the function buttons (f5-f8) and then pull up saved games by pressing (f1-f4)....or vise versa, something like that. I had tried nestical and other emualtors and never really like them, either the sound wasn't perfect or the screen was messed up.

RXheaven13b 11-04-2002 10:52 PM

You can get alot of stuff from kazaa and download.com

Dysfnctnl85 11-05-2002 05:50 PM

So TurboVR6, how'd you do it?
