The AMDs are junk in my opinion...they don't let you overclock as easily and if you do get it to overclock..they burn up. AMDs are also seen in more of the lower line computers...thus cheaper. Intel has a strong backing and I love the Celeron...so oh well. Again, this is my opinion, so oh well.

bigtime 06-22-2002 10:46 AM

rotaryman88 ur being sarcastic right?

celeron processors are the slowest processors on the market..... and amd is far superior than intel

Rotarydragon 06-22-2002 10:50 AM

Depends.

I'm running a Duron right now as it was very cheap. Of course if the fan stops spinning for all of 2 seconds the CPU turns into a lovely peice of slag. AMD has always had a problem with this.

As far as who has the better architecture...

Intel at this point in time has AMD beat architecture wise, at least from a tech standpoint. More flexable and theoretically faster.

In Theory https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Intel currently has the speed lead, but if you do a price comparsion most would buy an AMD.

Sooo what would I buy?

Depends... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Intel just revamped the Celeon line, it's competative again.

The big question is will AMD's StrongArm 64 bit architecture take off?

turborotor 06-22-2002 01:05 PM

I"m had both, i go back and forth between them. Usually buy AMD cause is cheaper but i can tell the difference between them, the intel have more muscle specially for games and graphics. My next chip is going to be Intel.

amd is cheaper and almost as good

intel is just designed way better barely ever have a problem with them. in the end you always get what you pay for

Twin89Stangs 06-22-2002 02:05 PM

had problems with Intel...

Strictly AMD here...

AMD TBIRD 750 here

With an old school GEFORCE board it does better playing Quake Arena than my friends Intel 900mhz with a GEFORCE MX2

I'm intel,,and nothing but intel, untill something bigger and better comes along. i'm a P4 1.7 ghz DDR board,256 mb of DDR ram, my bus speed is

166 x 2 =DDR.with a 40 gig WD 7200 rpm hard drive, with an ATI all-in-wonder radeon agp 32 mb DDR video card, running windows XP home,

and i use DSL for the internet surfing trip..i've had no problems at all.

i used to run a pentium pro 180 with windows NT ,,what a difference

bigtime 06-22-2002 07:30 PM

amd is far superior for gaming..... i run a 750 athlon and it runs alot better then my friends 1.4 p4

turbo dan 06-22-2002 08:12 PM

AMD is a quality chip. I have an 800 Duron oc'd to 1000 Mhz and have been running folding@home 24/7 since Feb. and have had no problems. I benchmark a lot higher than a lot of the pentium guys at our local lan parties.

My oc signature:

EPoX 8KHA

800Mhz AMD Duron @ 1000Mhz 7.5x133

512 Mb DDR ram PC2100

Radeon 64Mb DDR vivo

Tt Dragon Orb 3 @ 7000 rpm 50C Tops

Bahh, Folding@home is weak, if you want a real test, run Distributed.net.

On a side note, Distributed.net is what killed my computer recently, it had both of my 1 gig pentium chips running at %100 steady, and overdrove my puny power supply, wasted the mobo. its ok though, got another one coming. I miss that computer :( Dual PIII 1Ghz cpus and some nice peripherals that I was able to save

Dude folding keeps your cpu at 100% all the time also. I've been running mine 24/7 since last Feb. with no problems. You have to keep an eye on your temperatures. I've got a 7000 rpm cpu fan that sounds like someone left the vacuum cleaner on but it stays cool.

YucA 06-24-2002 04:45 PM

i like AMD. Intel doesnt have **** on amd for Gaming. Maybe recently with the brand new chips, but the price just doesnt Justify. wtf would you spend more than 2x for a processor that is slower than the same clock speed?? Gaming wise.

im running a Duron 800@1000. Asus A7V mobo, Asus V7700 GF2...Gaming rig that still rips ass.

horn4858 06-24-2002 05:00 PM

i got 750 athalon and a7v-how did you overclock, did you connect terminals back on processor? just cur. thinking about it myself.

turbo dan 06-24-2002 07:16 PM

I used a rear window defogger repair kit to unlock my 800 Duron. Super easy. Then changed the clock and multiplier to 7.5x133.
