This is strange but I need to know how they get the money back. Is it on the bank or the company the bank paid out to? Money was stolen by a person I know and I'm curious to see how serious of an ordeal this situation will become for them. It's an ammount over 1k so I know it's already a serious offense if the law becomes involved and given the bank I'm sure they willcorrect?

Well what you're asking about is the very reason I have a job so I can give some info. The laws aren't exactly the same as they are in Canada but close enough that I know the deal. First I just need to figure out exactly what happened. Someone paid a bill without your consent or something?

if its on a debit card the very first thing you do is call the bank and say you did not authorize the charge, they will then contact the merchant and get thier side of the story.

Yup, then they'll cancel the card and issue you a new one so it doesn't happen again. Whether they return the money depends on your bank's fraud policy (whether fraud is insured, for how much, etc.) and what they spent the money on. If they bought say plane tickets they can just be cancelled and you get the money back. If they bought merchandise, it's all about the insurance then.

Yeah that's all been done just worried about what will happen to the person now. It's an easy link back to them

They'll get charged with fraud I imagine (depending on the circumstances). The card is the bank's property after all so they stole the banks property and used it without permission.
