It came with plenty of software to download and mess with anything recorded onto the SD card, but for anything you record on the tape it says you need 'optional software'.
it did not even provide a cable to download to the computer from the tape, only a USB cable for use with the SD card and an analog cable if you want to go to a VCR.
I bought a firewire cable today, so all I need is something like Pinnacle Studio, etc.
on a side note I bought a 1 gig SD card for $80 CDN.
