Talk about wild! I've got my TurboII powered '78 Kelmark GT at a car show we have every Wed. night here in Port Orchard, Wa. About the end of the show two guys walk up and start talking rotary engines. They said their company makes 2,3,4 and 6 rotor diesel engines with up to 2000hp! Well, I didn't really believe them until I started listening to them for a while and they really knew their stuff! Plus I checked out their company web site and they make what they said.

Well, I showed them my Halteck E6k and they were amazed. They hadn't heard of the Haltech and were using a kind of primative system for injection and spark(yes, spark on a deisel engine.) They had talked to motronic and electromotive, but didn't like the system.(Me too!) I guess these engines have a prechamber with injector to start the firing just before compression(like a '70s Honda CVCC), so they will run on most any fuel. Needless to say I was amazed and just about speechless as I work on 3000hp marine diesel engines and had never heard of a marine diesel rotary, much less one with six rotors.

Well, I ran through the maps and functions on the Haltech and they really liked it.

What's the website, that sounds pretty cool.

UniqueTII 06-27-2002 08:22 AM

6 rotor group buy.

ThirdGenRX7 06-27-2002 08:35 AM

why would you post something like that and not leave the link? unless the story is bs

Sorry I didn't post a web site, but I was still working on my first cup of coffee when I put this post up. Its www.rotarypowerinternational.com The company is Rotary Power International. As with a lot of car shows, there is a lot of BS, but after talking to these guys for a few min. I realized I was talking to the companies development engineer. Man did these guys know rotaries! Its interesting though that they didn't know about Haltech. But I guess its like being to close to the forest to see the trees.

UniqueTII 06-27-2002 12:05 PM

Holy crap, a 1500 horsepower 6 rotor gas engine! LOL...it's 34.7 litres. The 4 rotor is a 2.6L and puts out 500hp as listed...pretty decent.

Rotarydragon 06-27-2002 12:05 PM

Oh yeah the guys over at Pegasus. Very cool people, they make a nice generator that I'd just love to use in my shop.

I was telling Unique TII about em.

UniqueTII 06-27-2002 12:20 PM

We'll put one in your red car just to see what happens.

wdwflash 06-27-2002 12:41 PM

Yes, I can just see me sitting on top of a 6 rotor engine. Kind of like Slim Pickins riding a rocket in Dr. Stranglove! I think poor little red cars tires would be flat under that big engine!

Rotarydragon 06-27-2002 06:11 PM

Hehe I was talking to them about their 2 rotor gas engine they said it would be possible to pull it off at one point if they went through with the smaller engine plans but it was looking like the big industrial players were more likely.

I'd love to try out a SCORE engine. Build a compost heap and away you go...

Third gen always looks to raise the BS flag...... not everything is lies you know! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Hell if I could get a hold of one of those 6 rotary engines I would put it in the 1st gen. With how light that car is. Only problem I would be worried about would be completely obliterating the chasis. That and finding a trany to take that much of a beating. Now that would be a ******* drag car right there.

Rotarydragon 06-28-2002 06:07 AM

Keep in mind these engines are heavy machinery engines. They were working on a small version but it went by the wayside.

SCORE is an intresting technology, John Deere had several tractors based on it

wdwflash 06-28-2002 07:12 PM

Yes, the ones they were testing when I talked with them were for Coast Guard Patrol boats.

horn4858 06-28-2002 10:11 PM

very interesting

Yeah when I was talking to one of their reps they said that even with the increased weight of the large SCORE rotary engine they were getting a much better power to weight ratio in those boats. Really helped with the boats tendancy to want to nose in or something like.

I'm not a boat person.

I'd love to get one of their Series 75's and put it in a tow truck to haul my 7's around.... :bigok:

bigtime 06-29-2002 09:51 AM

i wanna but one on my bicycle
