No but I knew a blind guy once.

But seriously, I have only been around a couple people that were deaf, never close to them. Although my father might as well be deaf his hearing is so bad, that might count.

I met someone who was both blind and deaf (Rotarydragon's friend) and it was an interesting experience. RD's wife would sign things into Christine's hand and she'd understand what was going on. It was pretty amazing to see that.

As for knowing ASL, I know very little, and that's only because my sister and brother-in-law are teaching their kids to sign. It's incredible to see my 1 year old nephew hand my sister a book and then give the sign for "read" or sometimes he even gives the sign for "read" and then the sign for "book". My 2 year old neice knows a lot of signs and she's pretty used to using them naturally. They should probably teach that stuff in school.

Yeah Christine is something else, going to see her today in fact.

As for myself I know some ASL and take courses but don't know anyone other then Christine who is deaf. Funny now that I can acutally communicate some in their native language it's like all the deaf people vanish.

I agree it should be taught in school. Unlike others the deaf can't really learn another language. There's a myth that they all read lips or can all learn english and the truth is quite different.
