It's always something right?











So, my wife's boss has this cat he wants to get rid of. Next thing I know, my wife brings it home and it's staying in the garage! She said it's just a trial arrangement, but I'm afraid that once she falls for the cute little thing, she'll want to keep it.











Heck, I'll admit that I've taken a liking to it. It purrs real nice, and looks great! Even the neighbors are jealous.













I know. I know. Sooner or later, the cuteness will wear off and then the vet bills will start to add up and I'll be kicking myself.

Are you saying that because of the Nikasil liners or because you just don't like cats?

 

they used nikasil liners? they were 1/4" thick cast iron back when Ford was developing that engine.

Huh? It's a 4.0-litre AJ-V8. The car is a '98 XK8. The VIN is within the range given for Nikasil liners. All the early XK8's had Nikasil liners. They changed over to cast iron in 2001 or 2002. At least that's what I've read on the internet, so it must be true!

 

I beg your pardon. This is a beautiful car, with no parts in danger of falling off. It's only got 60k miles on it. But it does stink like burning oil and it's hard to restart when it's hot. But I'm sure it's a really reliable car and not a timebomb just waiting to go off and cost many thousands of dollars in repairs.

 

They had iron liners in the motor in 95-96 just like the Ford Duratec V-6 and SHO V-8. I wrecked quite a few of the bare block and head castings during my first co-op job at Ford. I guess those were just the pre-production units.
