I guess I need to start watching the news more. I did not know that ephedrine has been volentarily banned.
I used to buy stackers from the fitness store and they dont have ephedrine in them anymore.
It seems a handfull of stupid people died using it. My guess, they were taking too much or they had a health condition and ignored the warning on the label and took them anyway.
So let make sure I have this striaght. If something can kill you fast, like ephedrine when its abused, its bad and has to be banned, but, if it kills you slow, like cigarettes, its fine keep doing what your doing.
Its a crazy world.

It still confuses the hell out of me to see young smokers. Sometimes I forget how easily people are convinced that stuff is "cool".
As for ephedrine, there are plenty of things out there that will kill you if you're not careful...I just hope they don't ban the Atkins diet...lol.

Hahaha...nobody has ever proven the Atkins diet to be unhealthy if you follow it correctly. On the contrary, every study that's tried to prove it unhealthy has failed miserably.
When I went off of it 3 years ago, my weight stayed at 230-235. When I started on it, I was at 275.
But hey, you know it all from what you read, right?

according to the study, the most common problem was keeping the weight off after you lost it, and losing calcium while depending highly on protein. supposedly putting those on the diet at a higher risk of Osteoporosis. losing weight was easily accomplished with the diet, but the weight came back very quickly.
another thing to keep in mind is that the diet is still relatively new (from what i have seen about it), and if there are any real long-term effects, they have yet to be discovered.

It's been around since the late 70's, and I was a believer before the craze...lol.
First of all, if you don't eat enough of certain things (fish, cheese, etc...) you'll be missing out on certain nutrients. Secondly, if you don't drink enough water, your kidneys will be fucked because of the high protein intake. Third, if you go off it completely (which you're never supposed to do) your cravings for sugar will just keep packing on the pounds, which is why I'm back on it now.
Most, if not all, of the studies that show it as dangerous are only testing the induction period of the diet, which lasts for two weeks. That's not the diet itself, rather just the best way to get your body to depend on fats rather than carbs. This would be an unhealthy diet to maintain, that's for sure. It's comprised of 20g of carbs a day and the rest fats and proteins. However, after that 2 weeks you add carbs weekly until your weight loss slows down to a healthy level (it's not uncommon to lose 15 pounds in that 2 weeks, mostly water) and once you're close to your target weight, you determine how much carb you can have without gaining any weight back, and you stay there.
The purpose of the Atkins diet is to rid people of their carbohydrate addictions and teach moderation, which is healthy in anyone's book. You don't cut out things like fruit and veggies...you just cut out the worthless crap like sugar and other empty carbs.
By the way, if you look at the uses of grains throughout history, you'd see that their purpose was only to hold people over until they could start eating meat again.
