the very best cup of coffee I ever had came from a $12 camping perculator, over a campfire- real manly stuff.

Just bought a bag of "Barista Brava" Colomian from Sam's Club. Says its by Quartermaine. Any good?

And Phins, they've got that cuisinart burr grinder for $29! Might have to get one.

Yeah, coffee over a fire does some cool stuff. I don't know why, but if you get the coffee as fine as you can and make it turkish style over the flame, it is gooooood.

i've had the fancy coffee pots, espresso machines, etc we always end up back at the french press.

I buy my espresso at coffee shops. It takes so much to make a good espresso. Good beans, matched to the equipment that's gonna be used, a good machine (ie. coffee shop quality which is certainly not cheap) and someone who rocks the manual bar. Why put in all that money and effort? It would take so much espresso to pay off the costs, plus who wants the hassle of getting pissed off at 7am because they're too sleepy to pull decent shots?

there's only one decent shop around here and they charge a fortune, it's like $4 for a 16 ounce americano, i drink 10+ coffees per day I can't afford to buy that **** from the espresso bar.

Well it's also a convience and time issue for me. Getting home from work at 4:30 in the morning and then waking up at 7:30 to go to class or a meeting, I don't really want to sit around making coffee, I'd rather have it do it by itself so I can just grab it as I hit the door.
