Ok guys, i'm thinkin about changing majors.



Currently i'm in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering....



I'm havin a hard time. I know for a fact its not becuase i'm not smart enough, but I highly quesiton if I like it. My current study habits are limiting me i know but looking past that i've tried fixing them. I really cna't just sit down and stare at math **** for hours upon end each day...it just doesn't work for me. I could try to stick it out, but i'm at that point where I still have a pretty long road ahead of me to just suck it up and keep going which leads me to my next crossroad. Switch majors.



The reasons that I picked engineering was originally becuase it would be a challenge versus something like business, the pay was very good out of college, and upon graduation I would have very little problem finding a job.



In High school I was one of those kids that didn't do **** and still made amazing grades. All the kids that studied their asses off to get by were jealous, well as it seems with most high school things theyre the ones with the last laugh.



But seriously, I need some suggestions. Half the reason i've stayed in engineering is becuase I wasnt really sure what else I could see myself doing.



Give me some majors with relatively high demand and fairly good pay, maybe not as good as engineering but up there.



Also major/minor combos and possible double major combos that work good are welcome too.

I'd start toughening up your pimp hand.

IT. Information Technology. MCSE, anything with computers. This world runs on computers now, they are not going anywhere.

Dramon, you sound like me when I was a college punk. I started out in EE, dabbled in IT, and settled in Business Finance, where I got my BS. I had graduated in the top 10% of my HS class and scored a 1410 on my SAT's. Looking back, it's easy to say that I couldn't hack EE because I was getting drunk about 5 times a week. 8 am Calculus is a bitch with a wicked hangover.



You need to sit down and do some soul-searching. If you want the Engineering degree, you will need to make a serious commitment, and I think you know that. If it isn't what you want, that's fine--change majors. But if you do it because you simply aren't willing to buckle down and do the work, I think you will regret it. I know there are times that I have.



If possible, try trimming your course load and take an extra year to graduate. Those courses won't seem so tough if you don't have to tackle more than one or two heavyweights at a time. And hook up with a group of bookworms and study with other people. It makes it a lot more interesting.

Russel, just stick it out. Engineering teaches you skills that you'll use everywhere in life. You will love being in an engineering or technical field. Being such a highly technical degree, an engineering degree can provide you with many opportunities outside of actual engineering.



Bottom line, a degree is a degree.. Pick whatever you want. All a degree gives you is the chance to try. Hell, you can have a degree in underwater basket weaving. Doesn't mean you'll be the next Martha Stewart. Or does it? No. Or does it? No.

Oh and Russel, when you get a job as an engineer, odds are you won't be doing hours of calculus or other hard ass maths. Honestly the hardest math I did in Civil was arthimetic and division, the computer took care of the rest.
