its funny you should mention this, my dad has had the same issue with recessed lights in his kitchen, no lens, just the recessed spot type lights. He uses the CFL's, but ended up buying a special tool to replace since he was doing it so often. I funky common wire, heat, i dunno.
Trapped heat in the fixture is the only thing I can reasonably consider as a cause. Wiring fault seems unlikely, since there are no symptoms, and everything else in the house works fine--TV's, computers, stereos, etc. I've got 9' ceilings and the attic space above gets pretty damn hot, too. That and the heat the bulb itself generates must be causing their premature demise.

make sure your house and electrical system is properly grounded, you may need a ground stake installed and attached to the house. Seriously. Knew a guy who installed a water filtration system on the copper pipes of his house, which happened to be used as his home's "ground" he seperated the pipes, insert the all plastic filter, and suddenly his appliances had shorter life spans. Blew out TV's in a year, bulbs always going out etc, installed a huge ground strap across the water filter from one pipe to the other, bam all fixed.

We were going through the GE Reveals faster than toilet paper, the things looked nice but didn't last at all, I replaced maybe 2 bulbs a week. I started swapping in the CFLs, I haven't had one go out yet.
