OK, once again I run a few errands and I have like 4 people who want to race me. This is when Im driving my Lexus no less, its not even a IS or a GS, its a damm ES. I sit there and say to myself "why the hell is this kid bothering me, Im in a slow car, and he is in a even slower car?" Then it came to me, kids today dont know what a fast car is I guess ( not ALL people, just the majority). They all drive econoboxes, they add stupid wings, big-tipped mufflers, decals, and 17"+ rims with low profile tires, and air filters, thinking "now my car is fast, let me go race". I feel like an old freakin man ( I just turned 30) when I think back to my high school days, everyone had a fast car. I mean fast- something with a big block in it, or a nicely worked small block, posi rears, worked automatic transmissions that would break the tires loose when it shifted, heavy duty 4 speeds with hard clutches. It was the FORD-CHRYSLER-CHEVY guys that duked it out. Now its ricer wars. My first car was a used Trans Am, a 1984, I put a worked small block chevy in it, a turbo 350 transmission with reverse manual valve body, and changed the rear end gears to 3:73. The heads were ported and polished, flowed, gasket matched, 58cc combustion ports, aluminum heads were only if you had mega bucks to spend. A wicked cam that went THUMPA THUMPA THUMPA went it idled, 750 holley double pumper. MSD ignition, I couldnt even run full timing with pump gas due to the compression : 11.5-1. You could still get leaded gas then too! CAM 2 racing fuel was $3.45 a gallon. Whats my point? I dont know exactly, I guess I miss TORQUE. The motor in my boat has 390 hp, and 490 ft.lbs. of torque ( its a Chrysler 413 by the way ). Where have all the motors gone? Where have the cars gone? The Camaros, the Trans Ams, the Monte Carlos, etc.. Back then anything Ford made- you could put at least a 302 in it, anything GM made- you could put at least a small black/big block, and Chrysler was just the animal of them all. I never seen a slow Chrysler. I think Im going to build me a big block chevy, turbo charged even, fuel injected, something at least 500 cubic inches, I say with about $15,000, I can have at least 1000 Hp, and I will run it on pump gas, drop it in a Cutlass, and go racing. IM going to scan all the pics of my old cars, and post them for the hell of it. When I first got my RX-7 convertible, I was happy cause no one was hot rodding them, now its common place, and no one hot rods older cars anymore. I guess like fashion, it will come back, lol.

I remember somebody telling me that the audi a4 is fast. I rode in one , and it was slow. So are those supercharged mercedes c230's. This guy thought it was so fast...maybe relative to my 81 tercel. :tounge:

I remember those days kinda... My first car(s) were an 80 camaro rs, dropped in a 350/ 400 lunati cam, bored 40 over, holley 650 double pumper, headers, single chambered flowmasters, 2.73's (i think), b&m slapshifter, no AC, no powersteering, no interior, 100 shot. And 8 mpg!! That car used to run mid 10's. sold for $1000. The other was a '68 cadillac coupe. need I say more. 472 cubic inches!!!! It was so fun pulling up to v-6 even some v-8 camaros and firebirds and smoking 'em. The drivers used to give me such a funny look. LOL . Oh well, now with all these civics and such I almost feel nerdy, modding my rx-7. oh well.

Those muscle cars have long past thanks to the mighty "soccer mom" and her minivans! This is the same EXACT reason why the 7s left our shores in '95...the companies wanted customers...and customers wanted fuel efficient family cars or vans...personally I'm not a big fan of american muscle...its just not my thing. Don't feel bad though...there are still PLENTY of 'ol school muscle on the streets, its just now people use them for race or show only...a buddy of mine does nothing but rebuild classic stangs...his daily driver is a '94 Cobra...and yea..they have a LOT of torque, but I'll tell ya right now..there are some boosted civics out there, and cars like my seven that can and will smoke those muscle cars! Lol..

hey..when you build that 1000HP muscle car...wanna race? I'm gonna need some competition when I'm done building my gtx I hate civics tryin to race me too though..it is annoying...I saw an ad in a magazine today for a new civic..they were saying "The new 160-HP civic, you'll notice it" that kinda thing...160HP???? WTF? Please....thats the best a civic can do.

I would even keep the car as quiet as I can, used to be a time when you had a fast car, you had to quite it up to avoid the cops, now people make thier **** loud and go slow, lol. I know it takes alot of skill to make a 1.3l engine go as fast as some of you, Im not downplaying that at all, understand that. It would just be nice to see something you dont see at every corner any more, I guess a 7 is as close as it comes now.

MY car is pretty quiet, except for an exhaust leak. Most of the noise comes from the open wastegate, but that's staying the way it is.

What purpose does a constantly open wastegate serve?
