Well I finally got my cable internet all up and running yesterday, was a little tricky to get all 5 boxes on the connection without having to pay for more ip's. Even though they are dynamic ip's they only allow one system connected to the net at a time, so I had to come up with a work around. Thus far I am very, very impressed.

I used to have cable, and I liked it alot. It was faster than the DSL I have now.

So far I have been more impressed than DSL. I once I got their stupid DHCP server figured out so I can have all my systems online... they told me i had to pay 5 per month for extra ip's, I'm WTF for dynamic ip's. HA HA att, I have 5 systems on :notify:

Yeah, they're so cheap trying to charge you more for running more computers. I used to run a router with my cable modem. I'm using the router with the DSL, but the DSL is a pain because every time the phone gets used the signal cuts out.

phinsup 12-27-2001 09:49 AM

Everytime the phone picks up the DSL cuts out???? That's jacked that is one of their huge sellers.

I've been meaning to call, but they're such idiots. My brother wanted DSL, not me.

ryan 12-27-2001 12:20 PM

Our DSL did that for a while... every time someone would call us, our DSL would be down for 15-20 minutes. Turns out it was a bad connection in the phone line within the house. That might cause symptoms similar to what you are getting too. Good luck figuring it out.

vosko 12-27-2001 12:35 PM

i have cable at my house. using a linksys router hooked up to a few switches. it works great. no problems so far and every thing in my house has highspeed access. as soon as the PS2 broadband adaptor and hard drive come out my PS2 will be on the cable modem also https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

phinsup 12-27-2001 12:47 PM

Yea I wasn't aware PS2 was coming out with that, but we may have to hook it up for some GT3 when it all gets out and working.

I wish I had a static ip from cable internet, would make **** much easier. I am using a Linux box as firewall /DHCP server.

vosko 12-27-2001 12:50 PM

yeah i just read it in Playstation Magazine last month i think. looks very cool https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

I figured it has something to do with messed up wiring, but I'm not about to find out. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I've had my DSL for a few months now with no problems on the phone issue. Just had to install filters on all the jacks and all is good.

The modem we do have does suck and has to be reconfigured about once a week. Sucks but I've done it so many times now that it only takes about 4 minutes now for each time.

I have cable internet..

runs pretty well

I have seen download speeds in excess of 200k/sec

Which isnt too bad..

It will probably speed up once my computer is upgraded.

768k/sec 2 way package

3com modem

Intel Pro 100 10/100 network interface card....

But I havent gotten my 750mhz computer up yet... still running on my 450mhz...

Well I have the 1.5Mps service, I haven't tackled any major downloads, but it appears to be faster than DSL at this point.

Twin89Stangs 12-27-2001 05:41 PM

well for 25 bucks a month I dont mind the slightly lower speeds.. besides this computer is for personal use only no business use.....

I use charter communications... they are pretty good just dont use their USB modems... those are SLOW!

I put on the filters, but I still have trouble. Maybe somebody installed a phone without telling me.

My cable internet was 2-3 times as fast as the DSL. :(
