Im in search of a 3rd gen rx-7, ive done some research and talked to some owners.

but i still need more info!

i know alot about the cars preformance and what its capible of doing, but what some people dont tell me is the BAD NEWS about the famous 7.

i know that the fd engine (1.3TT) takes alot of beating throughout the 10 years its been alive. So by the time i get it, i think shes going to need a rebuild, but what i dont know is what will make a reliable, power hungry rotary?

please give me some info on anything else that may go wrong on the rx. any info will be very apprecaited!

thanks pete

Unmodded early third gens are not reliable. If you've done all the fixes they are OK as far as I know but reallly cranky by all counts.

Otherwise rotary engines don't like being overheated or detonation. If you're going to turbo charge or goof with the turbos make sure you're getting enough fuel or it's no more apex seals for you.

2nd gens have eletrical system gremlins, I think the 3rd gen had the same.

Dunno too much about 3rd gens, they cost a lot and I don't own one.

well what all would you have to do to make a 2nd/3rd gen reliable again with spending as little money as possible?

I dont get it.

If you want cheap and fast get a DSM. DSMer's are great at squeezing every penny out of mods for their cars.

ehh DSM's are poop. well i want an FC and i dont want to have to worry about the engine crapping out on me before i either go with the 20B in it or an FD. so id like it to last about 4 years or so with spending as little as possible on it.

You can have fast cheap or reliable.

Pick two.
