[rant]

So part of my responsibilities is to order gas cards for our thousands of vehicles, boats, and machinery (fish and wildlife state agency). I ordered a replacement for a guys card, and it never showed up on my desk, even though the card provider in Texas says they mailed it. This has never happened before. It turns out that someone took the card, and spent over $2,000.00 in less than 2 weeks. This card can only be used for gas purchases, and anything they can get the gas station clerk to ring up as gas. I'm most likely going to be a suspect, because the card passes through my hands.

Sure, no big deal, they're going to run an audit on my procedures, ask me questions, check gas station surveillance videos, and determine it's not me. Big whoop.

But then I get another call. I replaced another guy's card, mailed it to him. And even though this guy (a lietenant in law enforcement, he woudn't abuse a gas card) has his card in his possession, thousands of dollars worth of charges showed up with this card. This freaky, really, super-dooperly sucks. I just found out about this second card, and I just realized that it has been used at some of the same locations as the other card. I'm going to be really scrutinized, investigated, whatever.

Oh, and many of these gas stations where these cards are being used are right around my house, and my daily commute. Real nice.

have a nice weekend!

dude that sucks! we went thru the same thing at the dealerships, we ended up with a pin # for the people who were supposed to have the card(s). or less confusingly. we had 3 cards and a pin number for parts, service and i think each salesman (they ARE the worst)

in fact my advice would be to look at the car salesmen, cause i bet they did it!

Either some one is setting you up, or the bastard is one of your neighbors.

If you haven't done anything wrong, just be honest during the probing sessions ( ) and it'll all work out.

Good luck

Cant you instruct the credit card company to send your cards certified mail or Fedex or something?

That truly sucks. I hope the surveillance vids nab the jackass.

Yeah, I might have to do that, but that's going to cost extra. And you know how government agencies are, they would fight over who has to pay it.

But that's just half of the situation. When a vehicle is turned in, the card for that vehicle must be cancelled/turned in as well. I would not know about these cards unless someone contacts me about them, or they arrive on my desk. My boss theorizes that someone could snag an old card in transit, get the account information off the magnetic strip, and duplicate cards with active numbers.

Worse case scenario, we close out the entire account, and reissue all cards. (over 1,000)

oh well, we'll see what happens. I'm not too worried, just stressing about the extra work. I've also just started our vessel renewals (over 800 at one time). Anybody need a job? We have an open position (that would really help me out)!

sounds like you guys need to work on the checking up side of the equation.

theres 2, you tell someone to do something and the you make sure it gets done. #2 is often neglected.
