I'm talking about comfort and support. I don't care about looks very much.

Which brand have you found to be the best? Which shoe?

I have flat feet, and wear $350 insoles, but my feet still hurt on a regular basis. I'm talking about a shoe for everyday wear, not for running, or formal occasions.

I sucks knowing you're going to have arthritis in your feet before you're 40, gauranteed. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

Geoffman72 04-24-2003 09:01 AM

err force ones.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

Baldy 04-24-2003 09:02 AM

I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that.

Has anyone tried New Balance? They market themselves as a comfort athletic shoe, but I was wondering how waranted their claims were.

Geoffman72 04-24-2003 09:08 AM

haha. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Whats New Balance? I definitely dont have an answer to your question though as I wear dockers mostly unless I'm working out.

I've been looking at getting some of these though. I dont know how cushy they are, but support must be there! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Baldy 04-24-2003 09:15 AM

nah, I would tear those up.

We I need also needs to be able to withstand motorcycle usage. I mean, my adidas have done fine so far, just a little uncomfy.

Geoffman72 04-24-2003 09:18 AM

I've found adidas to be good if you are playing soccer, but uncomfortable for just walking around.

My feet were always comfortable back in the day in Nikes. Maybe try a pair of them?

but nike is just so damn expensive....I'll try them on, though, next time I'm in the store.

I really like some pumas I had, but just tight in the wrong places...might try some of them, too

GarageBoy 04-24-2003 09:41 AM

The question is, what is right for you? Remember, everyone's feet are different. Just go to the store em on!

I was just wondering more about entire brands, rathar than individual shoes. Usually a brand has similar support and comfort across the board. Like Dr. Marten's, everyone I know who has them say they fit a little loose (mine do too). I've heard New Balance has good arch support in all their shoes, but I've never tried them.

Plus I wear a 13, so my choices are somewhat limited.

TYSON 04-24-2003 09:58 AM

I've always liked Nikes. I'll never buy shirts, hockey equipment, golf equipment or anything else from them, but they do know shoes.

I did buy Nike golf shoes, but those are still shoes, and the best ones I've ever tried. Nice looking too. My Nike joggers are losing the sole right now, but they are about 5 years old.

I have Otomix weight lifting shoes and those feel great too. They don't really make anything for general use, though.

My Adidas rugby spikes were pieces of crap, poorly made, not very durable and painful to wear. The Mizunos I have now are much better.

If you wear hiking boots I would look at a a pair of Zamberlans. You can order a pair from here Mountain Equipment Co-op I bought a pair and went on a week long hiking trip in the Rockies without breaking them in and they felt great. Once those ones finally wore out I bought another pair. Awesome comfort and support. Though with your special requirements you may not want to mail order.

I didn't know Nikes were actually that good. I guess I'll have to give them a shot. Plus I know they have sizes up to like 16 in stores (I have big friends).

New Balance are great. I have wide feet and most athletic shoes are too narrow. They come in widths, mine are EEE. They look cool and are reasonably priced.

I do not play sports in the New Balance. I have some Nike basketball shoes for indoor sports, and a shitload of Nike cleats for football. I just have to try on 50 pairs at the store before I can find one that fits.

ROTARYROCKET7 04-24-2003 11:18 AM

i heard new balance are very comfortable i like pumas and addidas shell tops https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

UniqueTII 04-24-2003 11:23 AM

I used to only wear Nike's, but I like Sketchers better now. They're the most comfortable shoes I've ever had.

Joe Flo 04-24-2003 11:40 AM

I am kinda preppy So I only wear Dr. Martins. I love them. Havent bought a pair of shoes in 3 years. They last forever. But I doubt you like wearing big shoes....

I already have a pair of those. They're tough, and look good, but they only come in whole sizes, so mine are a tad large. One day I walked 8 miles in them, and it took my feet like 2 weeks to fully recover from blisters and such. It was gruesome. And I've already worn parts of my soles flat. Still good, though!

Thanks for all the input, guys. Now I know which to check out first.

YucA 04-24-2003 12:12 PM

im pimpin oldskool style pumas. VERY comfortable. adidas shell tops are comfortable. not much beats em for me. i had some nikes, they are comfortable, but damn i miss mah pumas.

DJ Rotor 04-24-2003 12:13 PM

Best shoes I ever had were Nike Zions. Kind of a cross between a deck shoe and a trail runner. Of course they promptly discontinued them.

I've been wearing Rockport walking shoes for the past couple years, like them very much. Rockport is good stuff.

Rx7Roadster 04-24-2003 12:13 PM

I like Asics. Very comfortable shoes. I like them better the the New Balances that I have owned. They are great shoes. You should give them a try.

FikseRxSeven 04-24-2003 12:16 PM

i have about 30 pairs of sneakers....... thanks to a grimey foot locker employee.........

if you have feet that need to be corrected...... like flat feet, new balance would be the best for you, cuz they come in various widths.... plus they're very comfortable.

in my own opinion, the most comfortable sneakers on my feet are nike shox r4, nike air uptempo(1996), and the new addidas climacool's

The best shoes i've ever wore are/were Nike Turbine Zooms (the 2002 Jason Kidds). Hands down the best shoes to ball in. But lookswise i rock my Ponies like Spudd Web.

FikseRxSeven 04-24-2003 12:36 PM

there is no way that air force once are comfortable......... i only have them cuz they're nice and simple and all white

Srce 04-24-2003 01:37 PM

Nike makes the best shoes period. But my favorites are Kobe's Adidas.

Turbo II 04-24-2003 01:37 PM

hahaha those lugs f1 driving shoes.

teknics 04-24-2003 01:46 PM

the most comfortable shoes i've had are probably my current Dada's, some addidas (not the real common ones, those werent comfortable, they had these nicely cushioned ones) and probably my pumas.

try wearing some skater boy shoes, like DC and whatever. they've got like double the amount of padding needed.

kevin.

Baldy 04-24-2003 02:02 PM

what sucks is that I want a shoe that's comfortable all the way around, not just the insole/support. usually a good all-around shoe has good support. because of my insoles, I have to yank/rip out whatever insoles come in the shoe (unless they come flat, lie the doc martens). what a waste, I tell ya.

man, if I could, I'd go barefoot and flip flops 24/7, but feet start killing me after like an hour of walking around.

The foot doctor said there is corrective surgery, but it has a long recovery time, and is only used as a last ditch effort. In case you didn't know, there's a joint in that long bone in your foot that leads up to your big toe. Normally, this joint doesn't move, and forms part of the arch. Mine moves, therefore flattens. This also moves the front of the foot outward some. Since the joint moves, I am forming spurs (calcium buildup) on the tops of my feet (looks like little lumps). This will also lead to arthritis at that joint.

Here's what's funny: insurance doesn't pay for the foot doctor or preventive insoles, but it will pay for surgery. hhmmmm....

I'll say it: that's way too much information.

UniqueTII 04-24-2003 02:04 PM

That's interesting...definitely not a problem I'd want to deal with.

Baldy 04-24-2003 02:06 PM

more info that doesn't really matter to you, but I like pretending it does:

this can (and does) lead to pains all the way up the leg, and pains in the lower back. To add to the effect, my left foot is flatter than my right, so they're uneven. This causes uneveness all the way up, which leads to more back pain and other stuff.

ok, I'm done https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png we should just start a personal medical problem thread....wait, maybe not

ethannyc1 04-24-2003 02:23 PM

COME ON.......IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PUMAS

I do have 2 pairs. One is bright neon green (I don't know what my wife was thinking on this one), and the other I can only find 1 shoe.

DJ Rotor 04-24-2003 03:27 PM

Then you'd only have one-and-a-half pairs, now wouldn't you https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Interestingly, spurs can be prevented or reduced by increasing your calcium and magnesium intake. Sounds counter-intuitive, but apparently it works.

Tablets won't do much though, the body only absorbs about 1% of the calcium in them. Milk doesn't help much either if it's pasteurized. Best bet is lots of raw dark green vegetables.

I second that skater shoes are comfy.

teknics 04-24-2003 06:04 PM

dada's are like half skater half basketball shoes, they're overly padded but not skater padded.

hr404 04-24-2003 09:39 PM

Definitely go with a New Balance shoe. I have a pair of VANS that I bought 8 years ago, and they still fit, are wearable and still look good. the soles are just now wearing out. the only problem is that VANS are made in China now and the pair i bought were made in the good 'ol U S of A!!

I bought some Adidas basketball shoes yesterday, and they may be even more comfortable than my Sketchers.
