hey,

well today is the day I got to go talk to the guys about the 93 red FD i've been looking forward to purchasing, and boy did it turn out good.

1) Got there and did my casual browsing of the yard finding some cool cars for sale, and looking over 2 other FD's, one with a single turbo conversion mind you, and then made my way inside to talk to the owner.

2) Got inside and found tony. Told tony i had called a week ago and stopped by last saturday but he wasn't around. Told him what car i was interested in and asked for details. In case no one knows the car im probably getting was in an accident due to driver stupidity. So i asked for details on how he crashed and here is the story of the year pretty much verbatim:

"Well the kid had just gotten the car and liked the look of black steel rims on a red RX7, so he decided to put 4 donut spare tires on the car. Now a car with that much power with those kind of tires is asking for a problem. Well one night he was out riding, took a turn, spun out one of the donuts blew and he hit a wall not too hard but enough to mess up the body. Needless to say his parents felt he no longer deserved the car, so we purchased it off of them since they're rare around here"

Now how can say idiot? He put 4 donuts on a car with 255hp.... some people are such friggin idiots.

3) Talked to him about price and he was asking how fixed up i wanted it. He said well we were gonna put rims, a bodykit, and a sleek headlight conversion on it. I asked how much for that he said that it would be about 14,000-14,500. I then said well how about without the rims, just stock rims and tires? He said well that's probably about 12,000-13,000. So then I said well how about stock rims, no bodykit, and just the headlight conversion. To which he greatly said "That'll be a little under 11,000 probably."

Woo under 11,000 which fits my budget PERFECTLY woo woo, of course i didn't let him know that i did the "well im not sure if i want this car" kind of act. But continued talking about other things anyway

4) Brought up the fact I can't buy anything until i get rid of my 99 Durango, and he said "well we buy cars perhaps we can work out some kind of trade-in. Tell you what I'll call you when we get the 7 back here in the showroom and you can bring your truck and we can talk some details". Now i know my truck's blue book value is about 13,000-14,000, and if he lowballs me next time i go up there i'll probably just put a $500 deposit on the 7 and try to sell the truck myself. But if he's willing to do a straight up trade and give me a few bills of cash back for my truck I'll be the happiest man on earth....>WOOOOO

So for those of you who dont want to read all that here's a paraphrased version:

I went to a dealer, found an 93 red rx7 with a headlight conversion for 11,000 I think i can give him my 99 durango for the car and have him give me some extra cash back due to the truck's value.

thanks for reading, wish me luck!

Sounds way cool. If the Durango was my daily driver and my only car, I don't think I'd do it myself, but that's just me. Just make sure the guy has a good reputation and the car comes with at least a 30-day warranty. Good luck!

turbovr6: i live in wayne, not too far away from clifton. It's not a dealer per say it's a place which buys cars and either fixes them up or adds body kits etc too them and then resells the cars. The place itself is in tuxedo new york about a 25-30 minute ride from my house, but it's like 5-10 minutes from my school thats how i found out about it

phinsup: the car is already fixed he was supposed to pick it up yesterday with a flatbed so as to not add miles to it but ran into a lot of business and couldn't set it up. He said he should be able to scheudle a flatbed on tuesday to pick it up, then they'll detail it and i should eb able to have a look on wednesday.

1988RedT2: I figure you say this because FD's are notorious for problems, no? Well don't worry about me I go to Lincoln Tech, if i ever have a problem I can have the engine pulled and disassembled in a matter of a few hours and reassemble it by the time i go home. In fact in my Durango i blew the trans, i have no idea, and swapped in a remanufactured trans in one day. The durango was far from just a commuter car, I lowered it 3", had 18" chrome rims, body kit, and a 151db sound system in it...so it had it's fair deal of down time, i have an old 88 plymouth reliant for those times when my car is down. The only thing i cant fix at school is body damage...which i dont plan on getting any of.

Now i have about a week to get my truck from the repair shop, un-lower it, take out the system, swap the rims, and remove the body kit. Nice week project i'd say lol.

I'll keep you guys updated, as soon as i go see it in person i'll whip out the digi cam and get pics .
