******* name brand, charmglow/brinkman cast iron burners rusted out in about 13 months, warranty is 12 months, not a cheap bbq either thing was $300.
I am not impressed, I think I am going to buy a Kenmoore from sears they have stainless steel burners with a lifetime warranty. |
my BBQ is like 5 years old, it rocks
|
i didn't know there would be that big of a difference between cast iron and stainless steel, but the warranty's are definetely different. Weber has a 10 year on their burners, kenmoore lifetime, cast iron 1 year, I ain't spending $100 every year for new burners.
|
try the warranty, a lot of times if its that close they will just go ahead and honor it since it obviously didnt rust out over night.
|
in my experience cast resists cracking the best.
stainless steel always seems to give out more often, can't take the weight and sometimes the welds arent as good. |
nothing wrong with having a big ass open flame when the burner rusted out. Makes for excellent char broiling.
|
weber , and thats all you can say
|
I ******* hate all of them. They all **** on you after a year.If they dont then you havent used it or its still in a box. Mofo need to make everything out of 321 SS and burners out of porclien(spelling?)
|
webers are all stainless, the more expensive ones anyway
|
jen air...awsome grill...got one this year, and its all stainless steel
|
cast iron+humidity=rust
|
weve got a GE monogram built in outside and it still looks brand new.
looks a little something like this: [attachment=34115:attachment] |
I had a $200 Charbroil special, every year the thing was good for $50 worth of parts
Now I have a Vermont Castings, its like 5 years old, cost around $950 or so now that home depot sells it, sees ALOT of use- about 5 tanks a year, and it has only needed a new AA battery for the self igniter in all this time. |
i wish i had a pic of the huge one in sears with a ******* marble tabletop built-in.
its my dream grill. altho i do have a pig roaster, built out of an old military trailer with electronic spinning and everything, nothing beats a nice roasted pig on a hot summer day. kevin. kevin. |
kevin I worked at sears for 3 years and sold a few of those. We made 150 dolars when we sold one, and they were DAMN hard to sell. The side marble peices weighed 500 lbs a peice, the back room guys ******* HATED me when I sold them

I need to buy a house so I can build a brick one for charcoal. It just tastes better, don't listen to Hank. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

if you want to be a big shot you have someone custom make one for your backyard, they drop a Viking grill into a custom made brick enclosure with a countertop of your choice like corian, marble, granite. Hell they can even put a roof or a hood over it with a fan
you can put a fridge in that ****, broiler, bread warmer, etc.. http://www.sandhillspoolandspa.com/images/malibu2.jpg |
yeah weve got that ge grill, 2 burners, and a sink in a brick enclosure with about a 12'x5' granite top. the fire is hooked right into the gas so if you forget to turn it off one night you wont be out of gas the next time, just have a high gas bill. that was one thing i hated about propane tanks, someone would use the grill and forget to turn it off and then i would get stuff ready to gril the next time and go out there and be out of gas.
|
I dont like the way it grills when its plumbed to the house, I think it depends on your gas connection though
Just keep a spare tank around, get in the habit of turning off the knob on the tank itself and your in good shape. |
You guys are nuts with all this bling-bling built-in outdoor grill ****!
89 bucks buys a Weber kettle, and it gets the job done everytime. Gas grills are for rookies! |
Hell, I'd be content with one of those 55 gallon drum grills, they get the job done. Ah...I remember fondly when we got our little charcoal travel grill out at Road Atlanta during Formula D. Everyone around us were so jealous of our nice burgers.

lol you're using a relative of gasoline to cook yours, it's no better.

There's brass, cast iron and stainless steel burners and porcelain cast iron burners. The strait cast iron were obviously ****. I am thinking stainless, although brass would have to be pretty wicked too.

I have one of those cheap charcoal grills that works wonders. I've been thinking about building a brick grill for the backyard. One of these days. |
i read BBQ and thought retreat.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif
i was actually checking the grills out at home depot the other day for end of seasons clearances. we got a weber thats about 2 or 3 years old with about 240 sq inches(i think i did the math right), perfect for me nad my fam, but when you got 20+ ppl it gets small real quick... this thread has helped me better understand grills however. |
