ok, then I guess we wont name one in your honor, lol
There's a difference between not caring and bitching about it. If you don't care and don't want to donate fine, but I don't understand what posses people to go the extra mile and bitch about it. It's futile, it pisses people off and what annoys me even more is the fact that no suggestion as to how we could rectify the situation is provided.
I've said it before, you don't want to donate fine, leave it at that. If you have an issue, don't just bitch about it provide a possible solution, or don't bring it up.

BTW, I don't believe that there is any one answer to the manatee question. 10mph on all waterways seems way to restrictive, but if you get the government involved thats what you end up with(remember the 55mph speed limit!!)
The way I look at it is that we are the top of the food chain, and if we want to stay there we are going to have to look out for everything thats below us or eventually you end up eating soylent green. We have science on our side. Instead of passing laws against speeding boats, find a way that you can have speed and manatees.
I knew a guy in Alaska that had a new semi truck. Well one night he hit a moose doing about 60mph. It killed the moose and took off the front of his truck $$$$. Well, when he got the truck back he put on those little things that when the wind goes through them they make sounds only deer, dogs, moose can hear. He hasn't even seen a moose since he put those on. It would seem that scientific type people could come up with something like that.(big dollar government project to save the manatees, works for me, where do I sign up.) Be happy they don't have manatees in lake Sammamish or Lake Washington!(Although if they were in Lake Washington, Bill Gates would fund a project to save them. Can't have dead mangled manatees washing up in front of his house!)

[quote name='apexkw' date='Jan 30 2003, 09:52 AM'] i am just stating what i believe.
manatees are in the news all the time down here. usually for something stupid. i didnt donate to your mascot cause, and i dont plan on ever doing it.
also when did i say it was legal to kill manatees?
i didnt understand your joke either. just because i dont agree with you....i cant voice my opinion? if you even endanger a manatee down here there is heavy fines. they are trying to pass another law now that would prohibit boats from going over 10 knots in the waterways. do you know how stinking slow 10knots is?? its REALLY stinking slow.
it would take forever for fishing boats and cargo boats...etc.. to get out of the marina and ports and out to sea. imagine if it was a squirrel not a mantee and cars not boats, and you have to go less than 10mph everywhere in town in your car. do you realize how pissed you would be just because at the remote chance that one might run in the road in front of you.

Years ago there were no manatee zones and it would take you 15-20 mins to get from point a to point b.
No with all the manatee zones it takes more like 2 hours to get from a to b. That is the beef. I live in Florida too and it is a pain sometimes.
I just dont go boating anymore.
