So what do you guys think?

I want to know if im nice or a bad guy...

I would fire the SHITE out of him!

I need honest, truthful inputs plezzzzz

MY OUTLOOK:

Your paid to do a job. If you work at a company that is on the water and you cant swim so you insist you have to stay on land FIRED!

If your too old and slow to do the job, even if your a nice guy, profits and production matters FIRED!

Granted I dont think its the others workers business on the older guys pay, but they are smart enough to figure out, you work you get raises right...?

JT-Imports 01-07-2004 08:37 PM

come on guys.... this is important. Dont be nice, dont be dumb... Be fair... as if it was your company..

FrestyleFC3S 01-07-2004 08:39 PM

whats the diff between FIRE HIM and say BYE

anyways...i would talk to him about it first...before making any decision...

Fire means GET THE FRUCK OUT!

Say bye means be nice about it.....

Anyways...i would talk to him about it first...before making any decision that goes without saying. That fair so at least he know what and why its happening, if anything..

Long story...

I reponded in the quote section then had to pull it all back apart. It might be, but not on purpose LOL

that was rather short because I reponded in the quote section then had to pull it all back apart ya know?

Mazderati 01-07-2004 09:23 PM

I would present your point of view first; giving him a chance at change.

If he does not change or gives an attitude, adios. Being senior does not carry any weight with me. He is there to do a job just like anyone else.

Do the job, make it fun, get paid.

Mazderati---agreed....

treceb 01-07-2004 09:31 PM

where i work at it was similar.lol i didnt have a problem with the older guy with seniority being slower, i had a problem with, when asked about something he had been doing for years hed look at you with this dumb look on his face. i had to walk out of the lab once cause i wanted to punch him so bad...i just became very sarcastic with him which isnt a hard thing for me to do. i was glad when he retired...

FiKsE l2X SeVeN Jr 01-07-2004 09:44 PM

tell him to work harder or retire and move to florida or a japanese version of florida

westcoasttuner 01-07-2004 09:57 PM

It depends greatly on the situation. How long has this old dude been working for the comp? If companys want loyalty they also have to show loyalty. Workers are are not cattle they are people...I have been in both situations I owned and managed a shop and now I work for a brokerage https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif And trust me when the "brass" start bitchen about "speed" or even about other peoples performance all it usally does is piss me off more and do less. Is the old dude trying or is he slaking...if hes just lazy and slakin then yes something should be done but if he is trying then thats all he can do. This world is more than the bottom line and profit. As soon as biss start to realize this they will also prosper more https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

well its best to be polite about it i guess. we had a guy we was decent at his job, but he complained sooooooooo much it was rediculous, we were about to fire him (it wasnt funny anymore) and he decided to quit anyways.

BrandonDrecksage 01-07-2004 10:08 PM

talk to him about doin a better job, maybe cut his pay

Srce 01-07-2004 10:26 PM

Jason, your poll sucks. FIrst of all, the other shouldn't worry about his pay or his work ethic because they work for themselfes and he works for himself. Nobody is gonna benefit if either people's pay is cut or raised. They might not like it, but SO WHAT? LOL

Second, don't fire the guy because the others a pissed. Fire him if he's doing a poor job. If you decide to talk to the guy about it, don't tell him you're worried about the others, tell him you're worried that HE isn't doing the best job he can, or that it just isn't good enough.

And cut.

Leetheslacker 01-07-2004 10:30 PM

POLL IS INVALID, NO SOYLENT GREEN!

And uhh, kick him in the throat if he keeps being slow!

As harsh as it may sound, you're running a business, not some sort of social security.

JT-Imports 01-08-2004 12:37 AM

Srce-Leetheslacker-blow me! haha

Dramon_killer---Yeah I hear that too..

Fluid Dynamics 01-08-2004 12:55 AM

Give one week to improve his job performance in a _measureable_ way. The more professional you are with him, the more serious he knows you are about it. But I wouldn't just fire him without at least letting him know that it is coming if he doesn't meet performance goals.

JT-Imports 01-08-2004 12:58 AM

yeah true..

actually I already talked to this guy. Seemed surprised, i cant imagine why..... Anyway I think that wash is wake up call, at least for a few days. We`ll see..

Digisan 01-08-2004 01:28 AM

Here's my advice as a supervisor: I took over a management position a few months ago. The ppl I supervise have had some serious issues, I fixed that (for the most part) by showing them the right way and leading by example, that's the best way. Now if that doesn't work out FIRE him! Old ppl are tough, everyone that works for me is almost twice my age!

SpecialT 01-08-2004 09:33 AM

My way of dealing with these situations is this:

I always try and give everyone the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe they just don't know any better, or simply haven't noticed.

Make your case, explain how and why you want things changed.

Wait for results, if you don't see any. . .then they've made the decision for you.

You tried personal attention, if it fails. . now it's just business.
