I want to know if im nice or a bad guy... I would fire the SHITE out of him! I need honest, truthful inputs plezzzzz MY OUTLOOK: Your paid to do a job. If you work at a company that is on the water and you cant swim so you insist you have to stay on land FIRED! If your too old and slow to do the job, even if your a nice guy, profits and production matters FIRED! Granted I dont think its the others workers business on the older guys pay, but they are smart enough to figure out, you work you get raises right...? |

where i work at it was similar.lol i didnt have a problem with the older guy with seniority being slower, i had a problem with, when asked about something he had been doing for years hed look at you with this dumb look on his face. i had to walk out of the lab once cause i wanted to punch him so bad...i just became very sarcastic with him which isnt a hard thing for me to do. i was glad when he retired...

It depends greatly on the situation. How long has this old dude been working for the comp? If companys want loyalty they also have to show loyalty. well its best to be polite about it i guess. we had a guy we was decent at his job, but he complained sooooooooo much it was rediculous, we were about to fire him (it wasnt funny anymore) and he decided to quit anyways.

Jason, your poll sucks. FIrst of all, the other shouldn't worry about his pay or his work ethic because they work for themselfes and he works for himself. Nobody is gonna benefit if either people's pay is cut or raised. They might not like it, but SO WHAT? LOL
Second, don't fire the guy because the others a pissed. Fire him if he's doing a poor job. If you decide to talk to the guy about it, don't tell him you're worried about the others, tell him you're worried that HE isn't doing the best job he can, or that it just isn't good enough. And cut. |

Give one week to improve his job performance in a _measureable_ way. The more professional you are with him, the more serious he knows you are about it. But I wouldn't just fire him without at least letting him know that it is coming if he doesn't meet performance goals.

actually I already talked to this guy. Seemed surprised, i cant imagine why..... Anyway I think that wash is wake up call, at least for a few days. We`ll see.. |
Here's my advice as a supervisor: I took over a management position a few months ago. The ppl I supervise have had some serious issues, I fixed that (for the most part) by showing them the right way and leading by example, that's the best way. Now if that doesn't work out FIRE him! Old ppl are tough, everyone that works for me is almost twice my age!

I always try and give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they just don't know any better, or simply haven't noticed. Make your case, explain how and why you want things changed. Wait for results, if you don't see any. . .then they've made the decision for you. You tried personal attention, if it fails. . now it's just business. |
