I had a valve stem go bad on the mini. Holy **** was it a bitch to fit a new one in there!! Good thing they come in packs of 2 because I broke the first one.
|
Yeah I did that on my 13B one time
|
I never changed one, I don't know what I'd do if I had to - 4 valves in a 70mm bore? Maybe you're better off with the A-series after all.

"tire" valve stems, lol.

Well don't tell me it's not likely to happen on one of those boat anchors! And it's tyre! Mark |
i've only done it when changing tires
|
i knew he was talking about tires...sends chills down my spine them valve stems. teh stress about them not sealing correctly....is just too much sometimes. i wake up in cold sweats because of it.
|
I almost had to resort to KY to get it in the hole. I was looking at a piece of rubber that had to fit into a hole that was a third of its size. It was like virgin butthole.

HAHAHAHA^^
simple green, spray nine or soapy water will work, and will show you if its leaking. Did you have a stem tool? (lol) i dont have a bead breaker that will work with anything "skinnier" than 10 inches in tire width, so i put a duratec bellhousing under the tire/ tyre and used it as a spacer. |
I used WD40 and a flat head screw driver....and of course my O face.
|
most auto stores sell the tool for about 10 bucks, worth it
LOL, no ****? Thats also beside the $19.99 movable end ratchet type tool that I had to buy to reach my 02 sensor. Most people take it to the shop to change it, but I figured what the hell, might as well work on my own car. Oh did I mentioned I pulled a nail out of the front left FD tire today and plugged it? I carry a plug kit in my car along with a bike pump for emergencies. Most people would call AAA, but not me, no sir. |

why did you have to change the stem anyways? leaking?
I get home these days around 7:00, last thing on my mind is changing out a tire valve, its not lazyness, its time management. |

unless he took the tire off the rim I would say yes

I get home these days around 7:00, last thing on my mind is changing out a tire valve, its not lazyness, its time management.
Had a gash on the side, like it got bent and cut itself. Left the wife stranded at a baby shower or some girly type event. I was at work and couldn't come with the spare tire, which was convienatly in the garage. So after arguing about the good for nothing pieces of **** she was with that couldn't drive her home, or having to call AAA to tow it home for a flat tire, I was fortunate enough to have Apneablue run over, get the tire, and then find her to change it. Also...there were a few "husbands" around this place at the time of the flat. She calls me and says "we're wondering if we can drive it up the driveway to the compressor in the guys garage. "I'm like...well how long is the driveway...20 miles or something" So after she says its about 20 feet, and these guys want to jack the car up, take the wheel off, pump it up, pulls nails out, not sure where to jack the car up, don't know if you can drive it 20 feet down a driveway, blah blah ****** blah, I was not happy. Then the dipshits didn't know the valve was obviously cut. Some people are so damn stupid sometimes it makes my head hurt. But its quicker to do it yourself than drive to the shop and have Bo Bo do it for you. |
lol, jeez
if it was me: I would go swap it out for a spare, then take it to my friends shop during normal time who would let me use any tool I want, so I still do it myself but I dont have to buy the tool I wont use again |

But I'd rather do it myself anyways and have my own tools, because some day I know i'll change them again. Matter of fact I had my eyes on the 5 dollar set of 4 crome stems that would match the stems on my pickup. And I have a leaky tip on one stem on the FD, but is fine as long as the cap is on. So does another FD buddy. That might be a job for the near future. Also this week I ordered my paint guns for when I repaint my truck. I'll also be repainting the front bumper of the FD, and another guy's hood and roof where his hood flew off. Have you seen my truck restoration? LOL, reminds me... don't think I ever mentioned that Apneablue and I plan on getting a lift for the garage come December. |
I don't own a tire mounting machine. I put it in from the outside. Otherwise it would of been really easy. And in all honestly, next time around won't be that bad now that I have a technique.
I had to change 2 of the stems on the vert BEFORE school one morning. Another guy from school was mad at me, so he came to my house in the middle of the night and cut the stems off at the base. Talk about a headache. |
they sell nice portable lifts that lift the car up like 3-4 feet, good thing is you can roll it where you need it and its pretty compact
I remember reading how you were going to paint your truck in the garage, I figured you were still prepping it make sure your compressor can handle the gun you ordered, most HVLP guns, if thats what you ordered, require alot of CFM at high pressure. |
I haven't really messed with my truck much in the past 2 months. Too hot and I've been a little busy myself. Finishing off the floor and I'll be done and ready to paint. I have access to a couple compressors, one smaller, one huge. The gun I bought is a Sharpe 1.3 T1 HVLP GRAVITY, and only require 30psi at the inlet. Its a $300 gun so it should be pretty decent. Then I have another for primer that was cheap, I can throw it away when I'm done if I need to.

Pretty hardcore.
I have a manual mounting machine, but it is hell on the rims, so I only use it to dismount. I try to leave mounting and balancing to the pros, but is seems tire shops are staffed with cro-magnons, and no one can do a proper balance! I'm thinking of building a lift. Something Rube Goldberg-esque, hopefully with a manual crank handle to make the car go up. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to do the failsafes. |
You and the bike pump lol

I've thought about building a set of those ramps that you see infront of some dealerships that tilt to level when the car is up - might be a good way to learn welding.
