I think I paid $5 for safety glasses last time I bought some.
hahaha thats what i was thinking the whole time i was reading this. Face shiled plus safety glasses might look dorky but it will save you some greenbacks.

I agree but I am horrible about wearing my eye protection and I should know better, when I worked on aircraft I was slamming rivets in and it was dinner time, i toss my safety glasses in the toolbox and my lead says "hey scott throw a rivet in this while I hold it together" so I bump over there and throw a rivet it in, the leg comes off and shoots me right in the ******* eye and seriously don't see as well out of that eye as the other one.

thats when you call yourself a dumbass .. I always am very careful with my eyes, i use the glassed when grinding, cutting and even certain cleaning.. I understand your point .. but still, it only takes a couple of seconds to get them on.

I try to wear them, but they always get fogged up or gather sweat. Regardless, I always wear eye protection when operating a chainsaw, grinding/cutting metal, or shooting.
Laying under the car though, I've had my share of grimy rust flakes in the eye.
jwteknix, $1k isn't bad to keep your vision in one eye, better than being half blind me thinks.
My uncle is recovering from having radiation rods implanted inside his eyeball, to kill some cancer. He had to wear an eye patch and a lead shield over his eye, and was instructed to stay a certain distance away from other people until they removed the stuff.

I hope he gets through that baldy. Yeah I have been victim to the rust/dust in my eye before which prompts me to always look for the glasses now.. **** that i know how pricey it could get. Plus Since i drive for a living that might not help the situation.. I always have them on, they dont get foggy for me, but they are quite scratched now so methinks i should buy a couple more pairs..

There were no warning signs (aside from the sight of what looked like common "floaters"), he just got a regular checkup, and was in surgery 5 days later.

yea i try to wear glasses, but you cant always predict when something is going to be shooting. especially in a shop with 10+ mechanics, nevermind the fact that once i was clipping my nails and shot it into my eye. I've gotten metal in my eye without doing anything that youd imagine requiring glasses, such as simply bending a piece of slightly rusted metal then zing a piece of rust shoots off right into my eye.

i tried to read a book called the china study (the writing is horrible, I did this, I did that for like 500 pages), but the pictures were lovely.
the US spends more on healthcare than anywhere else in the world, and yet the 3rd leading cause of death in the US is medical care.

I read that once too, the US government spends more per capita than our government on health care, but we have free health care.
Eye doctor and dentist yes, you gotta go to Europe to get those free. Or Cuba.
