Shane.Trammell 12-21-2004 01:28 PM

ok so this morning i was driving to work which is in a town close to the one where i live, the total distance is probably 25 or so miles. im running late so im driving pretty fast, obeying all of the laws except for the speed. when i get into the town where i work, tyler, im going around the loop which is a 6 lane road with a divider. im driving around the loop at around 75 maybe 80 at the most, speed limit is prob average 60. when i got more into town my valentine 1 was going off for about 4 miles straight saying that there was a radar behind me, i kept looking out the back to try to see the cop but i couldnt so i just figured that there was a cop driving behind me a little ways. when i got to the road i was gonna turn on to get to the parking lot of work i got in the turn lane and was the first car in line. then i notice a police car coming up behind me rather quickly, no lights. he got right behind me at the light and when it turned green he stuck with me. the entrance to the parking lot is about an eighth of a mile up that road and right before the entrance he turned on his lights. i proceed into the parking lot and park in my normal spot since its so close to the entrance. then i get my insurance out and open the door to get out, i like to get out bc its difficult to get my wallet out in the car. i give the officer my ins. and license and he says the reason why he stopped me was bc there were complaints of me driving recklessly around the loop. he asks if i knew how fast i was going and im like no my speedometer cable is broken bc i ran over a dead deer and i havent been able to find a cable yet. i knew i was going about 75 or 80 but didnt really want to tell him that. anyway he goes back to his car to check my stuff out and i sit back in my car. he comes back to the car and when i look out i see that there is another cruiser next to his and diagonal to mine. then i look on the other side and there is another cruiser, this makes 3 in all. they start griping at me and im telling them that i wasnt driving recklessly then they go to have a little talk. they talk for a minute and come back and tell me that they cant give me a ticket for this, so im thinking great theyre just going to gripe at me and thatll be it. no, right after they say that they cant ticket me for it they tell me that its a class b misdemeanor and that they can take me to jail for it. they tell me that one of the people who called said that i was going over 100mph, and i say theres no way i was going that fast, i may have been going 75 at the most. they go back to talk a little more and let me know that they are trying to get back in touch with one of the witnesses to see if they want to press charges. so im waiting in the car thinking oh great theyre gonna arrest me. one of the officers comes back over and lets me know that i wont be arrested but then she starts giving me the speech about being careful and that kind of stuff. i say ok and keep saying that i didnt think i was driving recklessly but i was speeding a little. the woman officer tells me if she pulls sees or hears of me speeding she will personally press charges and take me to court, i say ok, trying to be nice since im still kinda in their hands.

the place i was going was the UPS store, ive been working there for the holidays since im not in school. the cops saw my work shirt and asked if i was a ups driver and i said no. then, since my shirt said "the UPS store" they ask which store i worked at, keep in mind this is taking place right in front of the store where i work. i just turn my head and look at the store and the sign and say "umm, this one," i couldnt help but be a little sarcastic since they asked such a dumb question.

right after i saw that there were 3 cops there my gf drove up bc she had some packages to ship, so she got to see the whole thing. not that she cares bc she knows how i drive and that i never do anything unsafe or outdrive what im driving, unless you think moderate speeding in thin traffic is unsafe.

basically i got nothing bc they hadnt clocked me speeding and they couldnt get back to the witness.

sorry that was so long

i'm pretty sure the 'whitness' can't even press charges, well in Canada they can't at least the officer has to whitness it, and if they say they want to charge you charge them for talking on their cell while driving

Eric Happy Meal 12-21-2004 01:47 PM

yeah, the only way you could get a ticket is if one of the officers saw you doing it, unless it was a felony, then it can go off of witnesses.

Shane.Trammell 12-21-2004 01:52 PM

im pretty sure you can go to jail if someone presses charges against you for it

nismo convert 12-21-2004 02:00 PM

get a butt plug then?

Sinful7 12-21-2004 02:02 PM

Was the she-cop hot?

Shane.Trammell 12-21-2004 02:05 PM

there were 2 she cops. one was kinda short, a little plump, and a little no. the other one was a kinda tall, a little butch, and her neck was tan while her head was not, this was the one that was griping at me, the other was just pretty nice and didnt really seem to know what was going on

oh i did get pulled over the other day by a pretty hot she cop, hwy patrol actually. it was dark and she asked what year the car was, i said 89 and she said yeah i thought they switched to the round tail lights in the late 80s early 90s, so that was pretty cool. i was going 10 over and i got a warning, she was the coolest cop ever.

Shane.Trammell 12-21-2004 02:19 PM

that is possible

Jims5543 12-21-2004 06:36 PM

That truly sucks.

Its great that someone can call and get a cop to catch you on the road. Meanwhile a house is being robber or someone is being raped. But at least the roads are safe from Shane.

3 cops none the less!!

Gotta love our law enforcement!

Jims5543 12-21-2004 06:39 PM

Next time Deny! Deny! Deny! If they didnt clock you they got nothing!

How can they go on someones word? What if someone cut you off and you gave them the finger. They could call the police and ruin your life by lying and saying you were driving recklessly. Thats bullshit!

I am really mad now.

He was speeding, got pulled ove, no ticket, comes to forum to whine

Jims5543 12-22-2004 07:12 AM

He was driving spirited in a hurry to get to work on time.

Someone decided he was unsafe and called the police from their cel phone

Police dispatched 3 cruisers to intercept him.

Police threaten him with arrest for reckless driving based on some strangers phone call.

If you speed you pay but to almost get arrested because some ******* called the police with a cel phone is bullshit.

ambassador_josh 12-22-2004 08:06 AM

i have never griped about getting pulled over for something i was doing wrong. if i would have only been pulled over for speeding this thread wouldnt even be here, i hate it when people gripe about getting pulled over for breaking the law. i got pulled over for something that i hadnt done, if you get pulled over for something you actually did then suck it up and take it like a responsible person.

see, yer whining again.

PhoenixDownVII 12-22-2004 02:27 PM

It's obvious the guy called the backup and used the threat just to scare you.

When a cop get's a call from a witness of anything, they HAVE to respond to it, as rediculous as the claim is, it's happend to my sister with her Dog in the past.

And as far as actually DOING anything, the things those cops said were empty threats, they can NOT arrest you based on heresay of what some passerby guesses. How can you justify putting you away for a while or even one night based on a excessive speed estimate made by an obviously Irate civilian? You can't. They just had the three gang up and say crap like that to scare you, I have friends in law enforcement, its how they work.

Just take it easy.

Peace

really i doubt thats what happened. apparently when the person or people called it was all over the police radios so a few of them were looking for me. they said they had been trying to catch up to me for about the last 3 miles.

Despite that, the threat was somewhat silly IMO, they can't arrest you based on what some idiot said. I'd fight that... :P

Shane.Trammell 12-22-2004 02:52 PM

oh i dont think it would have stood up in court, but i think you can be arrested for something if someone, maybe it has to be more than one person, wants to press charges on you.

teknics 12-22-2004 05:10 PM

ok so ive had a fair share of run-ins with the cops, and have used my lawyers to avoid jail multiple times. Due to this i spent much time studying and remembering laws, things that can or cant be done, how to prove what happened etc. Basically im loophole king. Hell i ran from a cop, got caught in a dead-end and talked my way out of any ticket. And im talking all out, WOT in the T2, i thought i found a dead-end and unfortunately was right, but thats a different story.

Anyway, here's a major thing you need to learn. The cops major power is FEAR. You heard "arrest" and thought "ticket" etc and bam you were putty in their hands.

Here's the deal. Witness sees you speeding, the only thing a cop can do is find you and watch you, if he notices something like the "3time rule" (you hit or cross a solid or dashed street marking 3 or more times) or you are driving extra cautious since he became visible etc. He'll pull you over saying there was reasonable cause.

He seems to have done that the proper way depending on how you acted.

Now he pulls you over, i dont wanna tell you how to act but here's how you make a cop happy. Pull over, turn car off, turn radio off, if smoking put cig out in ashtray, keep seatbelt on, do NOT reach for info, sit there with your hands on the steering wheel (not on your lap or at your sides, this presents a possible "reach for a weapon" or something that can make the cop feel vulnerable). Let him come to the car, when he asks for the information let him know where it is as you go to reach for it so he is aware of why you reach where you reach.

Now sometimes this part works sometimes it doesnt, depends on the cops attitude. As you give him your info make small talk asking **** like "may i ask why i was pulled over" whatever. When he speaks LOOK AT HIM, LET HIM KNOW IT IS REGISTERING IN YOUR HEAD. Give an apology, NOT an excuse, he's heard all the excuses before you saying another one will piss him off. In this case however your speedo cable excuse works, especially if you can demonstrate it. But if your excuse was "im late to work" you're better off apologizing.

Generally you want to talk BEFORE he goes back to his car, if you dont talk before he goes it's like 80% positive youll get some kind of ticket.

When he comes back even if you get a ticket, act like a man, dont whine or bitch, next time he sees you he might let you go.

Also if you live in New Jersey here's my wonderful tip. Don't wanna deal with a cop and try to talk out of a ticket? If you're wearing your seatbelt when he pulls you over, wait for him to get out of his car and make sure hes looking at you/your car, then take off your seatbelt. I've been pulled over doing 80 in a 45mph road and had this trick work. I sinmply got a seatbelt ticket and was done.

Also delivering pizza is a great way to get out of tickets, just always keep a pizza bag in your car. For the first week or two of delivering pizza i got pulled over tons, i'd always be like "im delivering pizza i just started like the other day and im gonna be late im really in a hurry.' half the time they just said "ok" and went back to their cars and i was on my way. For the year and a half i worked delivering pizza i basically owned the streets, doing like 90mph past the police station, u-turns in the middle of major roads, etc. cops knew who i was, what i was doing, and they turned a blind eye to it.

anyway enough of that novel.

kevin.

edit: BTW if pulled over at night turn your interior lights on. The key to a friendly officer, is an officer that "feels" safe when approaching your vehicle.

yeah i always do all of that stuff bc i know i would hate to be a cop walking up to a strangers car at this day in time. i will add one thing to that though and that is turn off or unplug your radar detector. usually when the cop is right behind you he will still have his radar on and your detector will be going nuts, i know the v1 just makes a solid loud ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh as long as the radar has a "lock" on your car, im sure at that point the officer will have no pity for you, especially if he pulled you over for speed

Eric Happy Meal 12-22-2004 05:47 PM

how does that seatbelt trick work? wont they write you up for speeding AND the seat belt?

inanimate_object 12-22-2004 08:41 PM

Wow Kevin - good advice.

And I think how the seatbelt trick works is he sees you're sorry but still has to do something - and gives you a ticket for the seatbelt and lets you off the other.
