Well the AMG thing is a joke, I will see if any old school people like me get it. As for FD: those are the letters used in 3rd gen Vins. 2nd gens are FC's, and first gens are FB's. I believe the 79-80 vin has SA in it and 81-85 are FB's.

I think that would be a good idea especially for guys that aren't familiar with engines or car mechanic stuff in general like... MAF, EGR, PCV, TPS, FCD, FMC, BTM, AFR, ECU, AIC, STP, etc.

I threw a couple of bands in there at the end

And I need some help doing it. Should I go to another site, I hope not I've gotten alot of good feedback here. Think about it there are still new guys in this thing.

Thumbs up

The link ILUVMY88CABRIO tossed out will answer all of your questions about acronyms used regarding rotary's. The others were just jokes... a couple so obscure (mine) that I dunno if anyone here will get it!

Good list! I didnt realize there were so many acronyms out there...

intheburgh,

You shouldn't take offense to the jokes. I was on another forum for the last couple years and everyone jokes around in fun for the most part. Just because we're FNG's doesn't mean we automatically know nothing about cars and so what if it does? From what I've seen, most people on this board are really helpful and respectful of eachother. Everyone was an FNG at some point.

Here's some more car acronyms: (anyone, correct me if i'm wrong on these!)

MAP - Manifold Absolute Pressure (sensor)

TPS - Throttle Position Sensor

ECU - Engine Control Unit

EFI - Electronic Fuel Injection

MFI - Multi port Fuel Injection

FBC - Feedback Carburetor system

ISC - Idle Speed Control

VAD - Vacuum Advance Distributor

MAF - Mass Air Flow meter

BOV - Blow Off Valve

FMIC - Front Mount Intercooler

PCV - Positive Crankcase Ventilation or Purge Control Valve

FPR - Fuel Pressure Regulator

ACV - Air Control Valve

PRC - Pressure Regulator Control

EGR - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (valve)

ABV - Air Bypass Valve

TOB - Throwout Bearing

TB - Throttle Body

TDC - Top Dead Center

CV - Constant Velocity (joint)

ABS - Anti-lock Braking System

AAS - Auto Adjust Suspension

CAS - Crank Angle Sensor

APS - Atmospheric Pressure Sensor

BAC - Bypass Air Control (valve)

AFR - Air Fuel Ratio

These are ones I've seen and kept track of in the past (not just for sevens). A lot of these you'll never see plus have multiple meanings...

It's easy to get out of control with these things.
