This afternoon in traffic I was passed by a fellow 3rd gen owner, and I tried to spread word about the local RX-7 club when we were stopped at the light. And this got me thinking about another RX-7 encounter I had with a nopistons member tuesday.

I stopped at the grocery store after having a few pints of Guinness with some friends, and as I was walking towards my FD beer in hand... I saw a guy loading up his FC. Of course I had to stop and compliment him on his RX-7. Upon closing his hatch I noticed the nopistions.com sticker(which looks very nice btw). After a few minutes of conversation I found out he's Nemsis on here, and even though I occasionaly lurk here I recognized his name here. Very cool guy btw.

It made me wonder about about the encounters you've had with other RX-7 owners where you live. I don't know about where you guys live, but it's rare that I actually run into a RX-7 person, let alone see one on the road. But it's always nice to run into another RX-7 enthusiast and be able to admire their car. With clubs and such you can get all sorts of people, and when it boils down to it not everyone appreciates every RX-7(for whatever reason... RX-gen gap, snobbery, etc).

I remember once running into one guy who had a T2 engine swap into his FC vert at the dealership. At the time this guy showed up I was talking about 7's with my friend there, and he had an issue with his car. Unfortunately the dealership lacked the parts he needed, and they suggested he hunt the junkyards near by. I went out to look at his car and we talked about various RX-7s and I eventually offered to help him hunt for the parts he needed(since I was waiting on a family member's car to be worked on).

Maybe I'm crazy or drunk, but it would seem that there's this unspoken bond between RX-7 enthusiasts. I mean there are a lot of cars with their devotees, but how many camaro, mustang, or whatever guys would help offer assistance to one of their own without knowing them? Or just pass by without aknowledgeing their presence? Granted there are a number of RX-7 owners who just bought their cars soley on appreance, or know nothing about it. It's still nice to run into someone who appreciates the cars regardless of generation.

So to those RX-7 owners who made our community as strong as it is... this beer is for you.

Cheers.

Cool post. As an RX-8 I owner I hope to get lumped into the same group but I fear that if the 8 gets really popular there will be many that will devalue the rotaries cult heritage. I remeber when I was at the dealer picking up my car there was a couple there looking at an 8. I tried to be friendly and explain some of the car's cool features, they blew me off and weren't smart enough to take a buyers well read enthusiasm as sound endorsement, they talked to the dealer instead. I had to correct the dealer a few times. I hope that couple didn't buy an 8, they just don't get it.

Maybe I should've been more inclusive... there are a lot of very nice rotary powered cars out there. I'm not quite sure I completely agree with you in regards to maintining the rotary's cult status. The only way we would see a 4th gen RX-7 is if the RX-8 sells well, but if that were to happen you would have a lot more imbeciles invading our scene. It's a catch 22...

Then again there are those who own RX-7s without knowing(and not caring?) about the rotary, or the things that make our cars great. They aren't people we should concern ourselves with... there will always be a cadre of hardcore RX enthusiasts.

That's just like the DSM community. There's been countless times where Ive just walked up to complete strangers and talked to them about their car. Sometimes they know, sometimes they don't but get interested after, some are hopeless ricers, and some just arent interested. I'm finding it hard to meet any local FD owners. I know there is a green one running around town but its not modded with any chance of ever getting modded. Then there's 1 more FD owner that bought his car already built, but he doesnt know a damn thing about it. He has a single turbo conversion (t76) and hasnt won a race yet. He talks **** and is just an ***. There's plenty of FB's and FC's but unfortunately they are just abused. No one wants to build them.

God to see you made back to the forum. I was wondering what happened to ya. It was good to meet a fellow RX-7 enthusiast local in Austin. Most 7 owners I see on the roads here a driving beat up FC's that aren't taken care of or they are 3gen owners who make a snobbish face when I wave at them while passing in traffic.

I made quite a few friends over the years just from being invovled in local car clubs and/or message boards. I'se been hanging out with the local S2000 club for over three years now and I have never owned an S2K. True car enthusiasts just love to be around others who enjoy their cars as much as they do.

One of the main reasons I hang around Nopistons so much is the fact that most on this board are just true car enthusiasts, not simply RX-7 snobs. It also helps that most on here have severe mental problems and most other boards wouldn't be able to put up with me!

Dennis, I'm PM'ing you my contact info.

I can totaly relate to what you wrote. The Rx community is the tightest around, period. All you have to do to be recongnised and approached about your ca r by me, is sport a NoPistons sticker or lisense plate frame.

I have approached quite a few about their cars. On more than one occasion I was severely let down by the owner. Anyways, I'm off to the local 'rotary get together'... later!
